Good Twitter Handles That Are Squatted

What about setting a trap for unused Twitter handle owners.

Approach Twitter and try and negotiate for handle. If fail then:

Approach handle owner and ask if they will hand it over, don't mention a sale, but hope they suggest a price. If fail then find another handle. If pass then:

Approach Twitter and say the owner is trying sell, breach of terms, please hand it over.

Gave this is a shot for a couple of handles where I own the domains, but no joy, seems Twitter have changed policy and won't hand them over, even when inactive or no posts; which is what I expected.

There is however a handle I very much need for a future project, but if the owner isn't impersonating through the very nature of them not using the account, is there any other method in which I can get it? Would registering the name as a ltd company and a trademark do the trick?

Any tips from those that have success with this recently?

Ian - would you mind clarifying what your domains were resolving to when you attempted this?

No where, just brand names associated with my business (or made to appear that way). I'm trying another tact now, setting up similar handles and reporting that way; doubt it will work without going down the trademark route.

I got one for a band I do digital and social management for, it was easy, they were using the bands exact name, and had never posted on it.

In Twitter's T&C's it says you can parody a company/person/group or set up a fan account, but if you are using the exact company name you will probably have to give it up if requested.
