Good Twitter Handles That Are Squatted

So build the future project, but don't launch it. Contact twitter and tell them you're ready to go and you need that twitter handle.

We done it the other way around (built it first, then asked for the handle) but imo you're taking a risk there. As if the handle owner realises he may just start using it to avoid it being taken from him (with the intention of asking you for £££ later)

Twitter were quite reasonable with us - a 'real' business built on that domain, and the twitter handle very obviously abandoned. They gave us it with no problems at all.

Would you recommend limited company and trademark too, is that what you did, or can I just go for a trademark and assign to my existing limited company?

We didn't have either. We'll likely need both at some point but we just built and launched the site, then spoke to Twitter.

If you definitely want to get the trademark and ltd company anyway then it can't hurt... i'd maybe just do them all first and then send them a message.

Did you just use the impersonation method, or a different option?

I was just about to say on that other thread something along the lines of

"Tbf Monkey does make good contributions and in my personal experience he has always been willing to offer help/advise privately if I have any specific questions following up from stuff he has posted in threads"

But its got taken down and I see he has been banned now, so I was a bit late.

Monkey's contribution was useful, but antagonistic. Shame there wasn't a middle path..

He does have his moments of being helpful (this thread), but has a completely different side to him too. Just wish I'd got an answer first :D

I'm sure he was given that option, but chose not to follow it!

He admitted he'd been warned a load of times.
I suspect his ego got the better of him.
Money does that to people sometimes

I think it's a shame, but obviously I don't know what has been said privately and whether that was the cause of the ban.

Domains and online business, perhaps?

A thread by a troll asking if he should stop being a troll isn't good use of anyone's time

How can a private conversation be the cause of a ban?

Because maybe Admin said "tone it down please" and Monkey replied

"Tone it down, tone it ******* down? you're telling me to tone it ******* down you ******** piece of ****** why don't you ****** your ****** right up your ******* ***** you stupid ****** with your ******** forum full of *****"

Not saying that is true or likely, but who knows :p

He had some decent knowledge but equally would get too personal (beyond what he'd likely say face to face). Anyway, don't fret, he'll be back with an alias before long!

Back to the subject in hand...how to manipulate Twitter employees to handing over Twitter handles!

Good Twitter handles are rarer than good domains so don't worry about it and just get creative.

Indeed, just a shame so many were registered and never used; sounds the same as domaining then really!

Yeah, I've tried to buy a few in the past but never had a reply.

It is possible though

I tried to buy @murray but found the guy annoying to deal with, he ended up selling it since

+ I know of others who have got good @ names for low xxx amounts

Whether they turn out to be worth buying I don't know

But how, because as far as I know, you cannot direct message someone unless they follow you, and given most of these are inactive account, they'll never get your message.

A twitter I wanted was set to private so know way of contacting them there

Fortunately searching for their twitter on google it came up on their tumblr, their tumblr had a link to a domain they had, looked at the whois, sent them an email, bingo bango they were happy to do a deal.

If they haven't revealed any information on their twitter or mentioned it elsewhere on the web you're a bit stuck though.

What's peoples thoughts about the 'doing a deal' aspect, we know Twitter doesn't allow for the sale of Twitter handles, so if you got rumbled afterwards, would Twitter punish the buyer, because it's hardly possible to punish the seller once they have done a runner?

I've tried a couple of times to get an inactive Twitter name by explaining that I've got the matching .co.uk ....but my requests weren't successful via the 'impersonation' route.

Tried to buy a couple (which against Twitter terms) but no joy so far. Has worked for me with a Facebook name though.

I know of a couple of acorn members who have bought Twitter handles.
