flip.uk - .UK Domain Auctions and Marketplace

Forgot to add.

You can export from DAN and import to Flip without any modifications to the CSV as long and the domains are .co.uk / .uk / .org.uk and .me.uk.

EDIT: Flip now accepts the dan export txt file without changing anything.

Flip is still in test mode so go crazy...

To test
Dashboard -> Selling -> Selling Tools then click Bulk Lister
Or just Click Here

Hi Ben, Yes its a counter offer. Well spotted. I have changed the wording on counter offer emails. Cheers

Bulk Editing is nearly finished and Transpact integration is up next.
EDIT: Bulk Editing Done

Added compatibility for Uniregistry and DomainManage export files.

I have been thinking about opening up the marketplace for other extensions. The reason being is that most UK domainers have the odd .com etc in their portfolio and it would be nice to have them all on the same platform.

Not catering for this may put people off putting their UK portfolio on flip as their portfolio would be split between two platforms. I could make it so a given members portfolio could only contain a maximum percentage of non UK domains thus keeping it UK dominant. This is just an idea, what do you think? Auctions will still be for UK domains only.

I have set a launch target of the 15th of July
There are 42 members and over 2700 active domains already on the platform.

Cheers Laz

Good idea!

I think the reason the only other .uk sales platform does so well is because its only .uk domains

Just a pre launce update as I have added some nice features.

Transpact:
The Transpact integration is now working. You will be able to create a Transpact with one button click (No input needed) You will then be able to follow the progress of the transpact, all from within your flip dashboard.

Bulk Edit: You can now bulk edit, Turn BIN on or off, Turn Make offer on or off, Set BIN and set Starting offer, with just two input fields.

Display Name: You can now change the display of your domain after import or at any time. ie. mydomian.co.uk you can change to MyDomain.co.uk after the listing has been created.

Parking Status: The parkling status is now displayed in your market listings in your dashboard. These are checked in real time but subject to propagation. It uses AJAX so not to block the page from loading.

Auction Creation: flip now checks if the domain is set to the flip name servers. This check is real time which reflect changes instantaneously, no need to wait for propagation once name servers have been changed.

Offers / Counter Offers: Any offer or counter offer will be binding for 7 days. After 7 days the offer will automatically be withdrawn.

Getting the functionality working has taken me off front end UI. I still have big plans for this but this can be done after launch.
The 15th is still looking good.

Cheers, Laz

I have Integrated SMS as part of the verification process. You will need to be a verified user to be a seller and to bid on auctions. For marketplace, anyone with a standard login can buy and make an offer. This is to make the marketplace as few steps as possible for end user buyers. (Joe Public)

I will be suspending the ability to add listings as I clear out the database and get Transpact ready for live transcations. Transpact is a must have payment method for sellers. Obviously you can still choose Bank Trasfer or Paypal and the community wont use it as much but it offers that extra protection to "one-off" buyers. And I think if it is advertised so across the site it will instil confidence in any uneasy potential buyers (If needed). One you have done your first one its so quick and easy and all done from your dashboard.

You will need to re import your domains which is a one click process. I can anyone help if needed.

User accounts will remain on the database but anyone who has not already verified themselves or anyone who I do no recognise will have to validate / re validate. It's a 60 second process.

I will be putting together a large FAQ and self help section in the next few weeks.

Cheers, Laz

flip.uk is now live.

Take me there...

Enjoy! Cheers Laz

PS. Make sure to use the same email address with flip as you do with Transpact if you already have a Transpact account. This saves you being treated as a new Transpact member if and when you come to use this feature within flip.

Looks good. your terms link on create account form returns 404.

Looks good, but could you please remove ns2.flip.uk, as it has the same address as ns1.flip.uk, and you don't have to have two nameservers (they should be separate for resilience).

Hi all
@ELIFE-MZ "Looks good. your terms link on create account form returns 404." - Done

@super-whois yep, this is fine just for domain pointing. You need to specify at least two at the registry. that's why it's like this.

Another well know auction site has been doing it like this for years :)

Flip runs it's own DNS. this is how it patches the incoming request to the sale page. I could buy another IP and make another nameserver but that wouldn't be nothing more than cosmetic. :)

@Ben Thomas I will PM you.

This statement is incorrect, one is fine, I've have now removed ns2.flip.uk from one of the names I've listed (using WDM to ensure that's not throwing a warning). Have you thought about setting up a wildcard dns name, and making users put their username in the name server hostname? For example lazarus.ns.flip.uk - this would prevent another user listing someone else's name that they haven't got around to listing but have already set the nameservers.

Doesn't mean it's the right thing to do ;). I would prefer to be able to use my own nameservers and use a TXT record to prove ownership. Nice to see that you're using IPv6 though!

Hi Super-whois. Oh in that case I stand corrected about having to specify 2 NS's at the registry.

Flip checks for "Active" domain names already on flip. If a user tries to list a domain that is already listed they will get a message with a link to the listing. They can ask the user to delete it. or report it if necessary.

To introduce an ownership check via a TXT would need require all users to have manageable DNS and most do not. They point directly from Nominet.

Yep. I am all IPv6 ready :)

Cheers! Laz

First day Stats.

Over 4000 Live Domains.
8 Auctions. 4 started today and 4 starting tomorrow.

I have asked admin to add flip.uk to the auction dropdown when promoting your auction on Acorn.
A few niggling issues but I guess that's normal as you can only test so much.

Not sure if I am missing something obvious, how do I browse the marketplace by category? E.g. if I want to see all domains in the financial category but don’t want to specify keywords.

And will there be moderation to make sure domains are listed in the most appropriate category?

Hi cps,
Click Domain Marketplace (In the header). Do you see a dropdown on the left (Asset Category) ?
This will show all domains in that category.

For example all in the LLL category.

No this will not be moderated its down to the seller to choose.

Also because it's only the first day.. if you don't see anything in a category that means the seller has not chosen a category. People are importing large amounts so give it time for them to go through and link their domains to a particular category.

Cheers Laz

Ah yes I see. I was clicking ‘search’ after changing the category drop down. But you don’t need to.
Thanks

Hey Laz

Website is looking great, we uploaded our domain list earlier and am now trying to put domains into categories. Can you include a button within the seller members area to filter out listings with/without defined categories so we can easily find ones that still need setting please?
