What I don't get is this; everyone on here knew they were overpriced before the start, yet $billions were spent by institutional investors and fund at or around the opening price

Buy high, sell low.

Mark Zuckerberg is a bloody nice bloke

I don't think i have seen ANYONE online anywhere say they were going to buy them
every blog, discussion site, comments in news sections said it was insane, valuation, huge bubble etc

maddening thing is knock on effect may hurt other valuations, domains, startups etc

the mainstream media as usual hyped it, prob scared they would get sued if they told the truth.

bet it will turn out banks and councils etc invested OUR money in the bloody things , at the $42 price of course :x

$3 is all they're worth each

zuckerberg and that wanker bono have took their billion each so they don't give a toss

Nobody knows what will happen in the market apart from the I told you so people after something has happened.

The date stamps on here and on an hell of a lot of other sites will tell you different

It's the underwriters.
and the hedge fund managers pulling strings in order to inflate and burst, then lay bets on the price dropping to a certain point in x amount of weeks = $$cashout!$$

Actually i dont think they had to pull many strings on this one, it was pretty obvious the price would rise and then drop. so no need to whip up a buying frenzy and move large amounts of stocks like the usual merry-go-round that it is. I bet they were licking there lips like a pack of wolves last week just waiting for it.

Seems like a big scam really, selling shares when the banks know they are not worth what they went for.

Who the hell bought any, you must be mad !

Opportunity knocks.

When this stock finally levels it will be the buy of the freekin century....

As soon as they actually release a proper search offering with Bing to rival Google its going to send the stock north at an insane pace.

They have ALL the people. Its so so simple.

Its not only the IPO. The business model is flawed from square one. The company my brother works for conducted a survey last year of 1050 18-24 year-olds, around 60% said they operated 3 or more accounts on Facebook, mainly for on-site game playing purposes.

So the 900 million user stats simply don't add up, although (assuming cross audience accuracy) 300 million is obviously still impressive, I believe a great proportion of that is consumed by gameplay.

In my opinion it won't collapse, but these giant social networks will eventually fragment and the FB we know today will probably follow the same model that Netscape, Excite, Yahoo and Myspace did.

Couldn't agree more.

So apple and most android devices offer google search as a default. Why would anyone use anything else?

Facebook has missed the boat on launching a search service. Anything from now will be on par with lycos.

There is already software that can grab all the photos you have posted on Facebook and all your contacts. So as soon as some new venture pops up with a cool idea, probably a combination of all the latest and coolest stuff and something new Facebook will go kaboom.

They had gave away so many shares they always had to float. So no better time when you know your revenues are plummeting and no way to monetise effectively your growing mobile users.

He stole the idea and its made him rich and famous so he's not going to lose any sleep over this. Probably revel in the infamy too.

On Facebook you can download an archive just about everything you've ever posted in one handy zip file. I don't think they're afraid of people moving away right now. Maybe that will change, but as just about everyone is on Facebook, as well as their history and their interactions, it seems like people are pretty well embedded into the service. Google + has been a huge flop for instance.

I can't really see anyone overtaking google search either, BUT I think making inroads would be much easier than google becoming a serious player in the social networking scene.

With Facebook it's a big hassle to move away or create another profile that hardly anyone uses (google + etc). However, there is no embedded personal history as such with a search engine other than thinking "i like these results and this company, so I'll stick with them". Having a brand that people feel a connection with is half of the battle, so if facebook launched a search service that was on their main site, I would imagine that most people would try it. It seems like an inevitability that they will try to enter the search market in a big way. Whether they'll be successful or not is another matter, but it's something that'll be interesting to see unfold.

Looks like they will be lining up to go to court. :)

I used a USA law firm to register a US trademark last year. Today they sent me an email.

Dear scott
The law firm of LegalForce RAPC Worldwide is exploring a class action lawsuit against Facebook, Inc. and its financial advisors.

Did you buy Facebook shares on IPO? Did you lose money?

Facebook (Nasdaq:FB) is being investigated for violations of the Securities Exchange Act. Facebook and its underwriters reportedly changed FB's earnings guidance to certain investors before the IPO.

This may be a massive securities fraud case, one of the greatest in history.

Fill out our quick form if you would like an attorney to review your claim at no cost or obligation.

You may be one of the eligible plaintiffs to be compensated for financial damages if you:

Bought Facebook on the IPO day of May 18, 2012 or possibly the Monday morning afterward.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please call 408 398-3126

NEVER trust the banks. They are rotten to the core.

once someone punches a big hole through their legal defences, they're in big trouble

almost any other company would have had their ass sued off by now die to privacy breaches, etc
think how many people have died , been attacked etc
almost every day on the news, its one of the big reasons they get so much publicity , perversely
not saying it is always their fault, but when you got all that money and can pay an army of 'top' lawyers
almost nothing seems to get through that armour

class actions 'should' get through that firewall
just depends what their legal insurance is like and how many corrupt friends zuckerberg's lawyers have in high places and the courts

I personally would love to see this house of cards come down

never like the bloody thing

also fb is uncontactable, you can't close your account
it's really a freak of nature how it ever got so big

when it comes to high rollers and money the courts ALWAYS bow down to them

look at the illegal bank charges fiasco
was found to be illegal, various courts, ordered to pay back billions
went to appeal and turned over
again the banks putting pressure on gov and courts behind closed doors basically saying if we have to pay this back we go under and we'll take you all down

just like they do to everything so they always get their own way

I say take all your money out, put in other 'vessels'
sure put main bulk in post office or governement backed assets/bonds
and take all the banks down lol
let's start over

let's reinvent what a bank should be

I think we should start on a run on banks, like NOW

Anyone wanting to permanently delete their Facebook account can do so from here.

I have had 3 accounts now and successfully deleted ( not deactivated ) 2 accounts and soon to do the third.

I do it by searching on FB for delete account, they do try to hide it though :x

FB is a joke, all the cr*p you have to read and people you don't want to know mivering you !

When I close this one down that's it

Maybe a lot of big advertisers wouldn't want to be associated with FB if it comes out as a scandal Facegate you heard it here first !

Sounds like you're joining the "grumpy old men" base camp. Welcome!

This, twitter and all the rest. A pile of sh*te. Never, ever seen the point. I watch me Mrs on it. It almost becomes a full time job. Updating profiles, accepting friends (that really aren't friends but need to because they are in the same facebook circle.) got to check the wall, approve someones photo, blah, blah.

Pile of tosh. Although i'm sure its good for the masses that use. I just cant be arsed. Total waste of my time.

Same with twitter.

.

Twitter and facebook are entirely different things. Treating one as the other probably means you wont 'get' the other.

Twitter is actually useful :)

I hear what you say Rob, but to me it is a massive spam bot and its duplicate info overload.

I wrote about this before. i was told it was because i was follwing the wrong people. So i followed the poster that said the same as you.

After you trawl through the insurance sales pitches and a ton of other spam, i was left with footie conversations, one sentence mindless banter about all things and then the important posts. Domains for sale. What did they tweet? messages stating the domain and a link to where? straight back to the for sale section here. :-? what is the point? i come here every day, so to me, it is just duplicated, information overload.

I know what you are going to say. I'm follwing the wrong people.

I'm sure it does have it uses but i can honestly live without it. I mean absolutley no disrespect when i say this Rob, but i've even followed some of yours and 80% of it is still just mates banter.

To me, like facebook, it is just another time wasting unnecessary "must have". I appreciate i am mssing out and it truly can be good (virals, breaking news, etc) but to me, the spam and the bullsh*t outweighs the good and i'd rather be spending my time doing something else.

My loss.

.

I use it hourly, cant remember the last time I saw any spam.

Personal accounts are different from site, service or biz accs.

Worth a nose properly, and not see it as a facebook style setup.

Even used it in an experiment for lead gen ;)

If its a case of following people and reading that then you are using it wrong IMHO.
