Ive knocked Dm for sloppy accounting in the past, but you have to take your hat off to them for recent catches, LLL domains al over the place.

Someone said they were testing a new system, True? False?

Yes have to say very impressed with the 2 or 3 Ive seen catched of late.

Is a lot of this down to (there great script) + the quota they must using the time delay dac there quota must huge?

I suspect somethings occurred with the time delay dac, the past couple of weeks a lot of mid-high range domains have been going to public catchers that would normally have gone to private catchers. Time delay possibly updating before the real time??

I've been looking into it the past few days but my quota is so low it's useless!

@foz classic post I will always remember.

@grant. Oh yes the update part. It may have been you who told me that last year but I forgot.

Couldn't understand till now. The queue may move slower in line B. But if line b opens first it's the line b fellow who gets the first ice cream. Not line a.

Yes I have to simplify everything lol

From what I heard (which may be a poor source) DM have been working on using their immense time delay for like a year or more. Its possible they have finally perfected it, or maybe its just a glitch on where is updated first.

Is there an excel format of the voting rights figures or a clever way to turn the pdf into something I can order.

DM don't have a huge registrant base and their time delay quota consequently is of liitle significance. They have a good script and a vital element of LUCK. We all enjoy it at some time or other.

Hmmm big d you could be right. Maybe they recently purchased an amazing system ? Sort of falls in perfectly with someone recently selling one. Maybe it was ( big 3d finger smiley pointing at you ) lol

Interesting about their lack of registration base though. Imagine what 1 and 1 or similar could do.

That extra 3 multiple over 480000 i read must really help.

200x highest monthly reg.

Wouldn't they only need like 350 names regged in a month to get 25% more look ups, making it 5x per second (4 RT, 1 TD) ? I say only, but 350 to most isn't likely, but for a public registrar, surely its fairly easy.

Aside from the Above :p

Interesting thread...

Think we are in a good position to comment on this thread...

@Foz. Wow that's very strong. Can you DM me or email me directly in a bit more detail please so you can identify yourself and we can deal with your comment sensibly? I don't like to see a single customer unhappy, not least with me very personally.

@All. Delighted you love the service! We are always tweaking things across every one of our back order systems (Custom for each TLD). We have dedicated resource that only work on our back orders so we hope they're good.

We haven't bought anything in. Same system, same team, just constantly innovating! Clearly, I wouldn't want to reveal to many stats, but can assure you the quotas also make no difference.

Not of great help to the theories in this post I'm afraid, but just couldn't resist a comment.

@Foz. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hey Matt,
I assume the email I sent the other day about how annoying the bulk look up tool is, reminded you we're still here ;)

Since you say the Quota makes no difference, can you at least say if you are actually using your quota ?

As for theories, there will be a million and one, speculation breeds idea's in my opinion so its good. I look at theories and think, o0o never thought of thought or umm that wouldn't work, but this variation may ;)

Hey Matt,

Indeed, I've given up booking domains at DM because of the awful bulk booking tool. Can't you add check boxes next to each domain that's available to backorder and then one add to cart button or something similar?

Hey Matt,

Not sure I've seen that exact one, but if it relates to bulk look ups/ordering of Backorders, then we almost deliberately haven't fixed this! We do help out on a one to one basis though as I'm sure the support folk have told you. They do have the tools!

The rational is quite simple. We want it to be as fair and equitable as it possibly can be and volume from any one player wouldn't help that. Whilst we absolutely appreciate the business of anyone in the drop catching space, and we really do, our original intention was to help mum and pops flower shop get mumandpopsflowershop.co.uk into their hands. If we had set out to play in the drop catching space you would see us catch plenty for ourselves and market them; were in quite a good position to market them right!

However, I firmly want us to always play gamekeeper not poacher; we can't play both and we don't. Sure, we catch the odd one for ourselves because something takes our fancy, but I can't think of a single revenue generating sale from a catch. I diversify, but hopefully you get the sentiment. We want to be as fair as possible, making it easier to place bulk won't achieve that, much as its rather annoying I'm afraid to those in this space.

Since you say the Quota makes no difference, can you at least say if you are actually using your quota ?
Absolutely. Not entirely sure if we use every last bit of it, but it is definitely part of the mix. Note that a large part of this goes on servicing our run rate lookups on Domainmonster.com and our wholesale business though. Only a small % ends up in backorder use, but I guess in the grand scheme of things its still going to be sizeable. Is that the main catalyst to our success with the .uk variant of our system though? Definitely and conclusively not.

Hope that all helps. Matt

I can attest to the fact that their support team help on the bulk-booking issue, and very promptly too! You just have to ask nicely...

Maintaining the balance is important DM position when looking at both markets.

Since there is no poss, its time to get creative.
