thanks dw. do you have a domain for pcsmart that i can have a look at for speed? they appear vv cheap.

p.s. anyone know is the "xxx domains hosted on this server" section on whoisc accurate?

The number of domains isnt really an indication of the actual number of customers per-server so to speak, as many have addon domains, some will park variations of their own domains.

Lookout more for the overselling by the host rather than the number of domains "pointing" at a server.

Those things are often nowhere even close to accurate, in both directions, either too little, or too many. No idea where or how they are getting their figures from, other than DNS records they find.

I use clook.net for UK servers.

There support is great, a response to email within 20 minutes is the norm

Stender same here, the only difference between the 2 is tattoo one is html and tartan one PHP, so maybe php is incorrectly setup or there is some sort of infinite loop or bad code. I'd check another PHP site before deciding on that one.

I think skinner is right and there is some bad code in the wp one somewhere.

Little Lever Winter Darts League - Home is a joomla site but it still very much in development so not sure how good an indicator that will be.

pcsmart had a good deal on unlimited domain hosting when I signed up...and I think there was a money-off code on webhostingtalk.com as well.

Many once you go ub £5 are overselling.

A decent server for webhosting will drop you £6-8k incl a volume of bandwidth, so each indivual user (on a 300:1) has to pay £23 per head. Now reseller accounts should be 50:1-100:1 which means a reseller has to make £70-130 to break even. both of them are 0 profit margins. Add in tech support, profits, overheads, and your looking at £40-45 per average user, and £200 per reseller as break even on 50:1 and healthy on 100:1. If you add in overselling, you can cut them in half easy, and reduce the server quality and you can hit £2-3 a month without too many issues.

I think a lot work on the basis that no-one is ever going to hit what they actually pay for.

I have around 15 sites on the pcsmart hosting but none are above 100 page hits per day, so I'm nowhere near hitting my 5GB disk space or monthly b/w.

My Skindustrial account has 8 informative mini sites within it, and currently lists

Total Bandwidth Usage 29.86 Gig (30572.43 Meg).

My other account lists

Total Bandwidth Usage 45.5 Gig (46588.15 Meg)

Thats the basis of overselling that the average 80% of users won't use what they pay for, for example have 3 hosting accounts that I havent even touched but was good deals on sign up, the bottom 10% use nothing and the 10% abuse it.
