Beginners Luck or failure ?

out of interest edwin has some wacky domains and one of which is of interest he has phonecamera.co.uk i think where u would say the popular search would be cameraphone does the order of words in the domain make a huge difference, im sure it does but just interested to learn

I agree Kieron should take your advice.

But I am also saying is that there is sometimes more to domaining than just going down the Google keyword tool route just for the sake of finding a vaguely half decent product or service related domain to bang a disposable minisite on... I don't want his creativity stunted so he becomes a Adword Tool Android and theres nothing wrong with occassionally punting on the odd brandable name.

You're right that there is a popular "camera phone" product but in this case there is actually a "phone camera" concept too - I haven't got the keywords backwards, I just have the less popular combination.

"phone camera" -"camera phone" - Google Search

The above is a search for "phone camera" removing all the results for "camera phone". Gives nearly a million results.

Having said that, phonecamera/co/uk is not one of my better names. At the time, I thought the technology was going to be more popular than it turned out to be

lets say like with a mobile phone you found phone case or phone cases would this be on the right lines

Yes, those are some examples of ok domains. They have decent search results, are descriptive and not too long. Downside is that the product itself is fairly cheap, but at least it's a descriptive generic domain.

Could I suggest you also post them in the Appraisals section of the Forum.

It will be seen by more people and you have a chance of getting a wider range of opinion. I like Childrens Scooter.

yes those domains are ok, and now i'm going to open up a world of hurt. You can't have phonecases.co.uk. So you have 2 options really..

1. You can open your wallet, spend some serious money and (if they'll sell it to you ) buy that domain park it and get a few clicks or develop it, sit on it etc etc.

2. Buy the .org.uk for £6.50 put a site on it and near achieve the same result as the .co.uk

If you choose option 2 it's considered a shorter term strategy because a lot of domaining is about waiting for the 'big sell' so don't expect people to be beating your door down offering you ££££ for it in a 3 years time (?). Expect to have to actually do some work to make profit happen...

So.. now you have to decide when milking your google keyword tool jobby at 3am whether your prepared to only buy the .co.uk of a 'descripive term' if its available (and end up with hardly any as there all being eaten up even as I type this) or take the .org.uk for dev, or do neither and move on.

Remember - you said you don't have any develppment skills so you have another problem to consider - can you make them pay in the end?
