Just wondering if anybody has had any success with any of the alternatives to Sedo for their .co.uk names?

Thanks
Stephen.

sedo

I have found sedo first class and for the sake of a few cents it would be acrazy idea to move, the one time I had trouble over payments[NOT THE FAULT OF SEDO] it must have cost them 5-6 times the value of my payment in staff wages and paperwork , to trace the fault to a well known uk bank with some staff just emerging from stone age. When I recieve help like that I stand by that company to the end. zee

I don't have any problems with Sedo at all - I was just wondering if any other parking services were worth trying for .co.uk names.

If your looking for increase revenue then IMO you would be better of running your own PPC listings. Ie espotting, Adwords etc..

From my own testing I was achieving around 30% extra using Espotting over Sedo.. but that does depend on what % of revenue share your getting, but if your looking at long term it would make sense even if you started off on a lower revenue share and built it up over the years.

Some of the attraction of Sedo is the ease of parking and that they promote your domains for you.

How easy is it with eSpotting?
Do you have your own parking system?
Did you have to develop it yourself?
Would a domain with no traffic to start with do better on Sedo (as it's hard to find time to do self promotion)?

Well, I think you have to consider the downsides towards using a service like Sedo.

Google will know that the domain is parked if your using Sedo and therefore must have a negative effect on any existing serps or future serps.

I have a parking setup on my server whereby any domain I add includes a set of espotting scripts added to that domain and then I can tweak them as need be.. basically it just uses the cpanel skeleton feature, so its quite painless setting up a new domain. About 30 seconds.

IMO it must have a more positive effect for serp results as the domain is just on my server like any other website. So its not noticeable as being parked. Im getting new domains indexed within a few days on Google and also this way I can collect Page Rank.. which would be desirable for anyone insterested in buying the domain.

As for developing it theres really nothing to develop when you sign up with Espotting or Mirago you get the scripts free and all you need to do is add a pretty template.

"Would a domain with no traffic to start with do better on Sedo (as it's hard to find time to do self promotion)?"

IMO I dont think you could ever build up a domain whilst being parked on a service like Sedo. It would be so easy for Google to put a block on Sedo parked domains whereby they lose serp placement or PR gains.

Totally agree on SEO and PR.

I have never understood why by parking at Sedo they give ALL domains a meta tag content description of "domains, domainname, domainregistration, buy and sell domains, domainauction, domainmarket, appraisals, Domainauktion, Domainmarkt, Domainhandel "

and keyword meta tag content of "The first internet search engine for domain offers, which are for sale. We have over 1.500.000 domains in our database. If you have domains/URLs to offer, place your free ad here!"

How is this supposed to help your domain in Google and other SEOs if it is not a domain name related domain?

Saying "This website is for sale!" in your Title meta tag doen't exactly encourage Google browsers to click on it either!

If you foward your domains to sedo, you can change the meta tag content. It was usless a few months back, as google recognized it was a sedo page and did not pick up the content anyway.

But that has changed - they provide the feed so it make sense to give sedo an advantage over DS and Fab - For the past couple of months google does read the meta tag content and all my sites have been reindexed with sometimes dramatic effect. A typo that was receiving 8/10 uniques per day got a number one listing and now receives 250+/day

When you forward a domain registered with 123reg, 1and1, godaddy, etc. you have the option to insert a title, meta tag description and meta tag keywords.

Just enter your forwarding URL and the tags BEFORE you add your domain to Sedo.

A couple of hours later, add your domain, go to your page, view source, it won't say "The first internet search engine for domain offers...2 but whatever it is you wrote....

Cauntion: If your domain is already in sedo, you need to delete it and re-enter the name which means you will lose the optimization....

What does this mean?

Which option is to be used when modifying a domain on a 123-reg account in this way? 'Web forwarding' but which option, 'framed' or 'non framed'? I think the hacker wiped my domain brain - I feel like a 'pre dom'.

In 1and1, it simply asks for a forwarding address, and allows you to enter title and metatags etc.

What should the forwarding address be, to ensure sedo picks up all the clicks through etc?

Strange, my domain now redirects me to sedo but I get a 404 error message saying it does not exist on sedo....??

(if redirecting to an URL, the dns servers remain with the registrar?)

Have you added the domain to your sedo account?
