Almost sold, glad I didn't

Here's a cautionary tale about selling domains.

A few months ago, I was offered £12,000 for skill.co.uk by a training company.

I was tempted because I am currently rebuilding my house and living in rented accommodation whilst the building work is going on.

Instead, I went looking for a suitable affiliate program that offered skill games (rather than gambling).

I found king.com - great site, but they haven't got a clue about affiliate marketing.

Disillusioned, I seriously considered the sale option.

I went back to the training company and we had a few discussions. The price went up, but I just couldn't bring myself to sell and they weren't interested in a JV.

Well, now I am glad I didn't sell. The value of skill.co.uk just shot up.

I have found a program that will make £12K seem like peanuts.

The site will be live soon. It's in pre-launch mode right now.

It's taught me to keep my domains, whether I have an immediate use for them or not.

Great information :) As always great names will stay great and hold value / be micro businesses in themselves.

Feel free to PM me info on the aff program as it could fit with a 'skill' like name of mine :)

Cheers,
Rob.

Hi Billy, I own skillgames.co.uk, which is a midasplayer / king.com skin. We do pretty well from that. King.com is definitely the best skill gaming site out there. And for affiliates, the commission structure is far better than gameaccount or skilljam, as it is based on % of deposits rather than % of rake.

Cheers
James

I like the King.com platform, but when I contacted them, all they were interested in doing was pushing me towards their affiliate program, rather than letting me use a skin / white-label.

Given that short-sighted view, I stopped talking to them, but I do like their model a lot.

The new one that I will be using will be along the same lines, with the added benefit of using VWD's excellent networking system which means that if you refer webmasters, you get commissions on a complete downline, rather than just those you refer directly.

I've placed a link on skill.co.uk for those who are interested, but don't want to spam a forum with it.

skillgames.co.uk is a fantastic name.
