Hi Everyone,

Just wondered if some-one with experience of spanish domain names could appraise this for me.

Acumular.es (accumulate wealth, knowledge)

Cheers,

Steve.

Hi Steve

No knowledge of the Spanish market as such (though I recently bought a spanish .tv) but did you know that Sedo have an auction soon of Spanish names? Might be worth submitting to that?

Cheers, Jon

Hi Jon,

Yes I actually bought the domain with the intention of putting it in the sedo auction - they rejected it !

I also picked up lucir.es, which means to excel, to shine. They also rejected that.

I don't really understand it - As with .co.uk's much has already been registered. The sedo auction stipulated it must be a 'real thing' - so that rules out verbs. But if it was a .co.uk auction then verbs would obviously welcome and many would command great prices.

I haven't a clue what these 2 dictionary domains are worth. Perhaps things work differently in spain.

That'll teach me to dabble in things I don't have a clue about.

Thanks again,

Steve.

Unless you are familiar with the Spanish language I would steer clear of the market. My Spanish isn't great but I think that by their very nature Spanish verbs in particular are unlikely to command high prices.

Other than irregular verbs in Spanish (such as Ser [to be] and Tener [to have]), most follow a regular conjugation pattern and the infinitives have endings such as -ar, -er, -ir, and just like English mean "to ....", eg: "to dance" (bailar) - they just leave out the "to" (which is implied by the infinitive form).
For example "Buscar" is the infinitive form of "to search", and is used on the Internet everywhere (eg: Buscar con Google) - but be warned, sometimes Spanish words can have two or more meanings with the same spelling (depending on conjugation), and there are many colloquialisms. But don't let that put you off! There are plenty of words still to be reg'd that have some value - I've managed to get .net versions of Credit, Loans and Mobile Phones domains!

I've been learning Spanish to help me expand my empire into Latin America... ;)

Hi Steve

There's been quite a lot of discussion of Spanish names in the .TV section on NP recently (I won't post a link as I believe it's not allowed). Two Spanish domaining forums were mentioned - demene.com and dominalo.com - might be worth a look

Just because Sedo didn't accept your domains for this particular auction, doesn't mean they aren't valuable (or won't be in the future).

Personally I'd go for TLD's if you're looking to buy more - that way they'll appeal to the worldwide spanish-speaking market (Latin America and the growing number of spanish-speakers in the USA), not just Spain itself

And remember the Google Keywords tool - you can set it to Spain or All Countries and select Spanish as the language. I picked up Mente.tv last week after checking Google (1 million broad-match per month, 9,900 exact-match) :)

Hope that helps

Cheers, Jon

Hi Jon,

Yes I'll certainly check out those spanish forums and the .tv's - thanks for that. It's funny because acumular gives 2.5million broad matches and lucir gives 1.6 million, but I suppose context is everything - as Devolution points out double meaning is a potential pitfall.

Judging by sedo's reaction lucir means 'to bark like dog' or something equally inappropriate, rather than the 'excel', 'shining beacon' I took it to mean.

As has been pointed out, it seems the versatility and emotive nature of spanish verbs maybe an issue here for me. Or perhaps the emotive nature of the sedo assessor !

Thanks for the info, Devolution, that's a great help. So, there shouldn't really be a problem with the 2 infinitives I have - Acumlar and Lucir ? Perhaps they're just not the the strongest verbs in the world.

The process of actually selling a spanish domain name looks interesting ! I gather both parties (probably in different countries..hmmm...) have to fill a form out and send it to spain - If it's a biggie it might be worth a little holiday I think !

Cheers,

Steve.
