123...Again

I'm having problems with "Streamline.net"...again! I am seriously considering purchacing my own server and hosting my domains myself but don't know where to begin...any ideas on what the initial outlay would be and ongoing costs etc.

Cheers

You need to understand systems admin to ensure your server is secure otherwise your open to being compromised. If you wanted a semi managed server, we could set you up with a server and a reseller account consuming all resources giving you the benefit of having your own box, but the simplicity of running it via a control panel.

Drop me a PM if interested.

Talk to Craig on here. We've used various bits of his 'empire' since 2002 starting with a reseller account, now we have multiple dedicated servers. Can't fault the service.

Fyi

Just about to make a site live and put it on a live domain from 123-reg and BANG not registered. Charged card and in put it in my control panel but NOT registered.

Sent a support ticket for answers this morning but no reply yet. Told them how i think they were quite good and defended them but not any more. NOT A HAPPY BUNNY :(

Just needed to get it off my chest ;)

They were great for the week after the crash and reg'd domains within seconds, but I've found since then that domains are not automatically reg'd and with every purchase you have to send a support ticket. However, pre-crash they didn't read the support stuff, at least they're manually reg'ing the domains within an hour during business hours.

The 123-reg site has been up and down like a yo-yo all of today. The two reasons I'm sticking with them at the moment, are that I'm a lazy shite and I'm hoping this is a transitional period and they will soon come out the other side, as there are some signs of improvement in certain areas.

However, in my normal job, we use Namesco. I had a few domains sitting in "My Orders" for a couple of days whilst I organised a cheque for them and I had a phone call from them offering a discount and extended registrations of the .coms, eventhough I said the cheque was in the post for the standard price!! It was certainly encouraging customer service and I'll be phoning to reg in the future with them!!!

I've been changing over to heartinternet [ should have done so a year ago ], admin's little tool is very helpfull...z
