123...Again

Does anyone know another registrar that allows decent DNS control, specifically changes to 'A' records on the main domain and subdomains? This issue is causing me some real problems.

Appreciated, Grant

This is what I can do in bulk at heart internet, but I have a reseller package at £30 a month plus it will also let you group domains together and give the group a name rather than selecting individual names and bulk them up each time.

Admin, nifty tool i'm recovering major op and have limited mobility, your item will save a lot of finger pain x500+

I've spent all day teaching myself PHP :)

Now I have a 2 PHP web scripts that:
  • Check to see if my domains are resolving (simple tick or cross in a web table)
  • has a link next to each domain in the table to go directly to the 123-reg page to change either the nameservers or the IPSTAG for that domain (no logging in each time and no control panel navigation needed)
  • The domain list can either be fed from a MySql database with all your names in or a simple domainlist.txt file on the same server with a list of your names
It's not pretty and its not a one-click bulk changer but it does highlight which domains are offline and need attention first (the ones with the crosses).

If you download the CSV file from the 123-reg control panel then you will know you are looking at only your domains there and we can use that to make the text input file.

If anyone wants to use it give me a shout tomorrow. I have it hosted on my server so I can put up a page specific to you and we can delete everything once you are done.

After all the moaning and groaning about 123 on here over the years I am amazed that people are actually using 123 hosting and/or are URL forwarding !:D

It has always been too much effort to change it.

With my new script I just went through 100 domains in under 10 minutes :)

It's going to be handy to use as a domain status checker too so I will publish it for use once its done.

Can anyone tell me how to add a bulk domain entry form and capture that as an array to search with?

is there anywhere else online discussing the 123 outage ?

I found this, not gone through it yet, but a site dedicated to it is not a good sign!

EDIT: Had a quick browse of the forums, and though it is on the money, there isn't much activity. I'm not going to waste any more time on this (other than this post) but if you want to (if you still are a 123 customer) that might be the place to start.

As of this post, fingers crossed, our sites seem to be back online. Incidentally, 2 accounts I have signed up for with Heart, I have not had the welcome email for either, the first one I sorted by getting the password via live chat, the other I am going to leave for an hour or so before doing the same. Will save the time tomorrow morning when I get into the office and tell out web team to start moving some of our couple of hundred domains!

I think quite a few here will appreciate any items you post to speed up transfers, quite a few I changed the IPS tag on had not resolved when placing at heartinternet

heart usually change the nameservers by default when you transfer them into your control panel unless you tick a box to keep them as they are.

But 123-reg usually change the tag instantly with nominet and on that they ain't too bad.

Isn't it ironic that the only thing they achieve with great speed is getting people to leave them?

Well I would say its a bit like some of the broadband companies, they hide the tools or information you need to do it easily but once you are determined to get it in motion, the act itself is quite quick.

It has prompted me to review the status of my whole portfolio, my script found 11 domains I had forgotten to do anything with :) plus now looking at the ones with sites, some of them the scripts are bropken and I hadn't noticed.

I am doing housework in Sedo too, just found the option to set all my domains to £ for bids in a couple of clicks, more important now the $ is so bad.

I am sure many of us would find things needing doing if you spend a bit of time looking over your portfolio.

Does anyone do monthly keyword analysis? I tend to set things up and onto the next one.

went back and re-entered ips tag , think yesterdays fault caused it,worked ok , still slowly shifting to heart

The company I work for also had excessive load on our resolvers and many tickets created on Friday. I wonder if this was an attack of some discription from Russia/Asia ?

I sent a fax to 123 reg last week and the issue was resolved inside 24 hours.

Trying to phone is a whole other world of pain and suffering.

For me something dodgy happening last week, I couldn't get through to oneandone sites on my broadband last week, but could on dial up.

My sedo pages weren't resolving on braodband and yet my dial up they were fine.

Although my broadband was picking everything else up at top speed and working normally, and others could still access my websites.

Someone's has a pop last week,

Isreal V Russia

maybe the Russians weren't best pleased, conspiracy time ;)

700+ changed, just my 15 .com's at 123-reg now

Cheers for that tool admin, saved me a few days work.

I'm having problems with "Streamline.net"...again! I am seriously considering purchacing my own server and hosting my domains myself but don't know where to begin...any ideas on what the initial outlay would be and ongoing costs etc.

Cheers
