no, they can be. they sell quite regularly
however, if a LL.com is dropped its lost forever and cant be re-regged. however in reality netsol aka namejet and tucows etc will never allow it to 'drop', it will always have time added on , as every domain does and then will enter their auction format or their domain warehouse

only if a LL.com was at a remote registrar could i see it 'dropping' away if not renewed

As far I know before nominet got their grubby mits on it, when it was run by the Uni type folk, they allowed LL+ names, I think there are about 25 of a possible 600+ taken.

bj.co.uk
bt.co.uk
cd.co.uk
ds.co.uk
eb.co.uk
et.co.uk
fl.co.uk
ga.co.uk
gb.co.uk
go.co.uk
gr.co.uk
hp.co.uk
ig.co.uk
it.co.uk
jj.co.uk
mc.co.uk
mp.co.uk
ok.co.uk
ps.co.uk
sj.co.uk
tc.co.uk
tp.co.uk
tv.co.uk
vw.co.uk
yp.co.uk (they got the matching .com too now)

Thats the lot :)

Thanks Skinner.

So why did Nominet shut down LL registrations? What a bizarre move.

Question applies to L or N too.

I have no idea why they stopped em, best I can tell there has never been more than 100 LL ever, best I can gather was someone told me about 8-10 yrs ago there was about 40 LL's so some must have dropped awayl

LN/NL/NNs you can still catch, register or sell, many members of this forum own them, I believe Grant is selling N2 or 2N I forget which, and one was caught recently by a member here.

L/N I have never seen or heard of singles.

Another oddity is that net/com/org/etc are all reserved names, there are about 5-7 LLLs that are reserved mostly TLDs.

Hi Guys , Happy new year to you all :)

I Looked 2 months ago and Skinner is right there was 25 LL.co.uk's .

Interestingly I found 1 org.uk

Bi.org.uk

I have a few NL/LN.org.uk's

There are none of these left to Reg but there appears to be a few hiding around this forum

There are still quite a few NL/LN/NN .me.uk domains free to reg like:

L6.me.uk
L9.me.uk
m5.me.uk
m6.me.uk

And there are still 3 letter .ME Domains available ( found 10 so far ) they will all go at some point.

Cheers

for me though the coolest .uk address has to be this:

BL.UK

happy new year guys

WOW.....that is cool
the Whois says its not allowed, do you know if its registered with nominet ?

yeah. wish i never dropped it now :D , along with .me.uk :D

nb: lol, im guessing as it's a subdomain in its own right like .ac.uk, it is not registered as such, its actually granted to them with governemnets permission. bet goes WAAAAAAAY back, with all the .ac.uk and .gov.uk domains. same principle really

The x.UK domains are available on application and exclusively to official bodies

I have to say THE BRITISH LIBRARY - The world's knowledge is better than Intellectual Property: The British Library's perspective

There is also

icnet.uk
jet.uk
nls.uk
parliament.uk
scottish.parliament.uk

The last one is proof that the scots parl can't choose a name to save there life.

I have never seen a ?.net.uk which I'm told ISPs and vISPs and registrars and stuff can reg these, almost every keyword I looked up was available to reg.
