Last year I treated myself to a V8 Mirage Countach replica

and a V6 355 Replica

Both were a bit of fun rather than facing the expense of the real deal, sold them now though.

Cant see the appeal of a replica to be honest.

Houses are the way to go. Anyone can make cash from property, its a doddle to make £20k a year and ignore anyone that says its not possible.

As for cars to impress the ladies, with a face and trouser-snake like mine, its just not needed. :)

I live out in the country in Hampshire and that happens alot round here. Had one guy snap up a house near me for £280,000 quick sale. He sold it a month or so later for £300K+ easily.

Also had a small bungalow down the road from me "renovated" by aload of polish builders. They bought the property off an old man for not to much and now its up for sale at £400k. Its such a small house and not much land but someone will buy it.

Oddly enough to tie the two in, I have just sold a car out here in Brisbane at a lower $ value than paid however due to the exchange rate changes there has been a profit made.

The £ has dropped about 20% to the $ since being here (APD probably will give you a bigger %age since he was here!) and house prices have shot up 21% in the last 12 months.

Shame I didnt buy a house over here at the time, or a bugatti veron or would have made a tidy return!

second hand cars in Oz are really expensive aren't they??,why is this does the government charge an import tax or some kind of handling charge?,i have always wanted to live in Oz and a couple of month ago discussed it with the missus about uprooting but the wages are a bit lower there.

There could be a levy on imports, not too sure on that. Certainly 'european' cars are more expensive, however auzzy ones are cheaper.

There is less of a new car culture out here than the uk, likewise due to distances it seems all the cars have higher mileage!

True, but the weather and landscape is free... :)

The last proper car I bought lost me £24K in three years. That cured me.
My next car was £8K new and is still worth £3K, four years later. If it gets dented I don't care.

i know wear your coming from, best keeping away from new cars it's demoralizing when you sell it a few years later and it's lost half it's value

admin, this thread must be taking up some space with all these photo's,i do apologize, when it's burnt out you better delete the thread? :(

I found the 2nd hand cars that I wanted to buy were upto twice the price in Oz, although they were always in far better condition due to the weather. Also it was odd seeing nearly mint condition Datsun 120Y, mark 1 Escorts and other old cars that would have long been dead in the UK still being driven around.

Rob, I remember in the good old days when the exchange rate was $3 plus to the £.

deliajen, as for emigrating, just do it, believe me you will never regret it. If you have kids, it's probably the best country in the world to bring them up in, especially if you live near the coast.

I've got a V reg Laguna at the moment. Had it 2.5 years, and not had a problem with it at all. Still goes well, and the diesel gets me 600 miles on a tank. Not bad for a car thats reaching 10 years old.

Car before that was a Rover 620 - I loved that car!

Next car may well be another laguna or a mondeo

It's fine, it's good to get an insight into the people here, not only their cars but how they present them and their surroundings. Indeed it says something about you.....

I've got a Chrysler Voyager 2.5 and the missus has a Mini One. I didn't realise till the other week just how much the Chrysler cost to service - £380, plus they identified 150 quids worth of other work, like new brake pads, that needs to be done! I think I might get shot of it before the next service!!

The missus and I do seem to have gone through a number of cars in the last 6 years - Rover 214, Focus, MX5, 2 Freelanders, Peugeot 307CC, Golf GTi, Voyager and a Mini.

My first car was a Clio 1.2, which I ran into the back of a Royal Mail van, then a people carrier. My premium went from about £400 to £1300. I don't even pay £400 for my Voyager these days!

My favourite was definitely the MX-5. Now that was fun to drive and could turn a few heads. Ah ..... happy days!!

I drive an '07 Audi S3, also got an '01 Audi S3 that i'm being lazy about selling. :)

Yep MR2 base and I had a Camry 3ltr V6 put in the back.
The countach is a custom chassis so no donar car, Renault V8 in the back.

You should of got one of these bad boys :)
