You know, if you wanted to sell it for a really decent price, I would suggest printing up a brochure (make it look really slick) and pay to have it dropped into the bags of all the attendees at http://www.londonboatshow.com/

Either that, or perhaps more effective would be something like a half page or full page ad in the show programme (since the bag drop will reach attendees, but not necessarily exhibitors - my experience from Internet World taught me that - whereas most exhibitors will have a flick through the programme at some point) That way, when they've got a break during the week, they can start dreaming "How would our business take off if we owned Yacht.co.uk?"

Nice idea, but that would probably cost more than he paid for it and then some! It cost us quite a few thousand pounds to do that one year.

I would perhaps target the superyacht designers or as they like the minimalist look, perhaps the same could work for their domain names?

Sure, it will probably cost about 2,000 pounds for the ad or the brochure drop, plus printing costs (if doing the brochure drop route) and design costs (either route). Either way, should fit into 3k I would guess.

So that's still under 5k all told, including the purchase price, so there's a massive potential to make a hefty (10x?) profit if he can "hook" one of the companies at the show.

We did some work for a client a while ago and they acquired a boat building company and had asked us to get some info (not in the uk unfortunately) One thing I did notice was lack of uk sales could be a good sign as people are not selling the ones that have or not…? Nice name though

He is some of the info we found for them might help?

Try yacht brokers http://www.ybaa.org/ http://www.myba-association.com/ And boat us 600,000 members http://www.boatus.com/ Many uk people moor boats abroad might find some companies want to break into the uk market...?

I.d look at doing some viral adds boats sinking etc (plenty of movies on you tube etc ) and at the end “Yacht.co.uk we sail you through the stormy waters” or any old jargon... Send it to insurance companies, boat builders all the people interested in yachts might get a good response and will cost you pennies
Or Somali pirates might be interested :)

It cost us 8K plus printing costs I seem to recall for the carrier bags!

Be cheaper to have a tarp made saying 'yacht.co.uk for sale', then drape it down the side of a hired truck for a week, parked directly outside the venue entrance!
