Ok.. I stumbled accross this web domain.

According to google keyword tool

Sandblasting gets searched 1900 times a month,
Sandblasting Equipment searched in 2nd place, 880 times a month.

This worth anything? lol

This domain buying game is very addictive......

The good thing about this name is that it's niche ... I feel there is a bit of potential for a sale (which is never easy) ... or you could start a niche affiliate site ... although volumes are pretty low.

Rgds

thanks :)

Im thinking about creating a business directory... easy to get a niche longtail like that to page 1 of google, and once its there... charging for advertising space?

With 880 searches a month, im sure i could get 2-300 hits a month. Google adwords charges approx 80p per click... so surely I could sell advertising space on it to make a couple of hundred quid a month? lol

I know it isn't huge... but im a self employed entrepreneur in Poland and English pounds is lovely money over here lol lol

Good idea or bad?

The good thing about being a web entrepreneur is you can up a site quickly and cheaply, and to start with monetise it with Google AdSense ... then try affiliate programmes ... then try taking direct advertising ... then try selling the domain / site on.

In principle selling direct advertising is a good idea because it will be more profitable than AdSense ... in this case though, creating a full directory might be overkill because it is very niche and a low number of searches. Best to put up a basic site with content, and then either show the domain is for sale or put up a banner saying you can advertise on the site ... and see what happens.

Yours is very niche and you will learn over time where the big opportunities are ... but you have to start somewhere.

Also ... don't buy too many domains to begin with ... it is easy to get carried away and buy rubbish names that you can't get round to developing.

Rgds

Thanks again

LOL again very true.. i already own over 200 domains... 2 of which i've devleoped lol... it is... addicting :p

Great advice.

It's very easy to purchase domains with plans to develop which never actually materialise. Whilst learning more about domains, I would suggest you develop some of the ones you have already purchased if they are good quality. The registration/renewal fees will just keep adding up if not, with no affiliate or advertising income coming in to pay them off.

Ok, let's say you get 2-300 visits a months, and Google charges advertisers 80p per click.

Then let's say you get 75% of that per click from Google, so 60p a click, and you get a CTR of between 0.5 and 2% on your ads from your 2-300 visitors, that'd give you earnings of between 30p and £4.80 a month depending on which end of the scale you hit.

Selling advertising direct might work, but it's going to be tough getting advertisers to sign up specifically with you, as they are more likely to use Adwords.

Managing that sort of traffic volume on adwords clicks is always going to be a difficult proposition wrt making money.

damn...

Excellent post.

Thankyou for saving me a lot of time....

I guess the only value is me contacting sandblasting companies and seeing if I can sell it directly then.

Again... very logical response you gave me, and I completely see the sense in your argument. Advertising wise its completely worthless.

Thankyou.

My pleasure.

Let's take another scenario. X% to XX% of the people typing [sand blasting equipment] in Google are looking to hire or buy sandblasting equipment.

Hiring costs £xxx per hire and buying costs £x,xxx per sale. Let's say affiliates get paid circa 5% of the total spend.

You get 2-300 visitors a month and offer these exact things, and 0.5 to 2% of them hire or buy something. I'm sure you can work out the numbers for yourself.

haha

lol lol ok stop rubbing it in! lol

Ironically that is actually more profitable.... but still pointless lol

Not at all pointless, just 2 sales a month at an average of £2k per sale (or 20 hire a month at £200 a hire) would net £200 a month at 5%, not a bad return if the site is cheap and the performance is consistent.

Ahh

So you think 20 hires a month is possible?

When I followed your maths I assumed that 2-300 visitors... 1% = 2-3 buyers

2-3 buyers = 2 hires + 1 sale

= £1000 + £400 = £1400

£1400 x 0.05 = £70 a month....

If you think the hires could happen more often, then thankyou, this would be worth building!

I mean that different models can produce very different returns. But obviously that is all assuming that you can get the traffic via SERPs and it's targetted. I would have assumed that sandblasting equipment was a pretty targetted search.

Worth A Shot

I can get a site built on this within 72 hrs and it'd certainly be worth "a shot".... Costs me nothing to try, and even £50 a month is £50 a month I didn't have I guess!

Thankyou for giving me the motivation to at least try this :)

I would contact a tool manufacturers or similar and try to sell to them for maybe low to mid £xxx

Thanks

Cheers doodle - I'll do just that.

I've spent about a grand on domains so far... and I KNOW i've bought quite a bit of crap :p BUT... if I can sell a couple and get the money i've spent back, then ironically even with my totally amateur approach it would prove a profitable hobby.

Will make the calls.

If anyone is interested in purchasing this domain for £300, I would sell immediately.
