The value of links in general and links from directories can be argued indefinitely. My own testing seems to suggest that listing in free directories can be beneficial.
Over the years I've submitted sites to hundreds of directories which never show up in my backlinks. In this thread I'd like to invite people to suggest any free directories that show up in their backlink profile - an indication that they may have some value.
I'd like to suggest 7 simple rules(!):
1. This is not a thread for discussion as to whether links from directories are worthwhile
2. I'm mainly interested in free directories. If you know it's paid or reciprocal link directory please indicate.
3. If you know the PR of the homepage please indicate it
4. If it is a niche or geo directory rather than general, please indicate the niche
5. Please don't submit your own directory (I will abide by this rule myself!)
6. To avoid spammers, please only contribute after you've got 10 posts to your name.
7. Again as an anti-spam measure i'd like to suggest that directories submitted should not be hyper-linked.
Hope that's all okay with everyone. I'm hoping that this will be a genuine resource to one another. Remember, only directories that show up in your backlinks!
