Worth buying this .org.uk?

It is going to be a case of in 4 years or less we all look back and kick ourselves when .co.uk have been totally swamped and .org.uk's are the next best thing.

org.uk's appeal will increase quick as the next best .uk domain and will have companies clambering for generics, 3 lettered, and .org.uk's in general.

4 years or less you watch!

Hi all

New to domaining and wanted to ask how you guys go about valuing a domain name. You mention the google keyword tool, is it this one - https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Also, I what do you do to make a guesstimate about a domain's worth? Exact and broad match with this tool? Do I need to sign into Adwords to use the tool?

Sorry if there's a thread already for noobs, if one of you kind souls could point me to it or simply offer your answers to my questions :)

Thanks

PS - I ask because I too think I've found some "interesting" .org.uk domains but didn't think they'd be worth much. But, with this thread, I'm thinking they may be. Cheers!

@ Louie, it seems a few of us newer members get caught out by that Google keyword tool being set to "broad" search by default, I thought I had found loads of domains with high keyword searches before finding that out

Hey thanks for that, this websites great for picking up snippets of info like that. Following on from the ".org.uk" debate, I couldn't resist registering thebeatles.org.uk today, nothing to do with it being an investment - I'm just a huge fan! Maybe not the greatest bit of business but something fun to tell my mates down the pub!

I also registered britneyspears.org.uk, but don't tell the missus...

I've found several generic term .org.uk's that I'm considering buying but what do I do with them once bought?

Do most of you buy then immediately post up on Sedo or similar? Do you develop the sites even if it's just a minipage/landing page?

Which is better to do?

Also, do any of you contact the .co.uk owners and see if they'd like to buy the .org.uk?

Just trying to figure out if it's really worth getting these. The vast majority of them have all tlds already taken and .org.uk is the only one left. Based on that, is it a good idea to purchase these and sit on them?

thanks for any advice!

Yes, buy and sit. People are booking generic .org.uk drops so buy them while you can at cost. Just my 2p.

Hi aZooZa

If the word is generic but doesn't necessarily get tons of traffic according to google keyword tool, ie maybe 2000 last month for Exact match...but the term is highly generic, can even work well with subs like highheel.shoes.com kind of thing...would you still suggest buying one like this and sit despite low search or only buy those generic with high volume like 50,000+?

Cheers

I have another couple of questions, first one, is there a particular number of letters in a domain name which you should not really go beyond before it makes it less appealing or of less value?

The reason I ask is, I couldn't help myself today, I only meant to buy another 3 or 4 domains, but I got carried away and bought 12 of them in the end, a couple of which have 20 and 22 characters made up from 3 words in each name.

I had planned on sticking with .org.uk's where all the other tld's had been taken, but I came across one where only the .com was taken, that was for the 22 character name, now I've seen it written where people advise others to leave them alone if most of the tld's are still available, but I can't fathom why, is it purely because of the longish domain name?

This domain I came across had 135,000 exact searches last month according to the Google keyword tool, and the average for the last 12 months is 110,000 per month, also, the average cpc is £2.13, on this occasion, I only bought the .co.uk version, should I also buy the .org.uk as well?
