Hello Folks,

I bought this domain minutes after the president of Fifa announced the 2018 world cup would be hosted in Russia. I bought the .co.uk TLD due to the huge UK football market.

If you could give me your thoughts it would be most helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Berry,

Worthless to be honest mate, if it was worth something they would just DRS you for it and take it from you for free.

zero resale value imo

development potential but you'd need to investigate World Cup TMs first and see how aggressive FIFA are at protecting their TMs because it may not be worth your while. I know UEFA TM variants of their competitions but not sure about FIFA.

Also its a while away and seeing the recent trends in internet policing I think that by that time registering a TM domain will result in a SWAT team coming thru your roof and bashing you with sticks.

haha, hopefully I will avoid the SWAT teams.

Apparently Fifa are allowing the use of their trademarks such as the words Fifa, word cup, etc for fan forums. Which really opens up the use of the domain.

The .org version of this URL is going for £8000, ridiculous as it.

I have recieved offers for this domain.

http://www.ipo.gov.uk/ohim?ohimnum=E9526278

they have their applications in progress so they are already going to be looking for breaches

the fact you have it listed for sale on Sedo will make it hard to prove you weren't intent on profiting from it and were planning to use it as a fan forum

It's the same deal with the Olympics and other major sporting events. Fan forums or information sites are fine... until you make a penny from it. Then they will come down hard on you.

If you've received an offer, I'd take it (very quietly) and move on.

England qualify

Fan forum for the world cup in Russian….co.uk that’s already limiting your market..? You have to hope the England qualify, compete with the official sites, what about revenue? Fifa wouldn’t be happy with loosing a buck off there back… Add money, time to develop, market, host etc... Mix in that fifa could come hunting at any time for a name that would be worthless after the world cup….?

Let it drop or do nothing if someone wants it they will find you I wouldn’t waste any time or money on it though

With it being 7yrs away your not going to hit its true value until after the 2014 world cup, and from that we may not qualify for it, then again Scotland, Wales, and N Ireland may qualify alongside us.

Be a stretch to develop this into a site people would want to use, maybe a travel portal for those wanting to go over to the world cup, or advice on being in Russia such as laws etc, as I don't believe many people would join a forum specifically for that world cup when there are general football forums that cover all types of leagues and competitions.

My advice would be to keep it away from parking services, don't put any adverts on it until nearer the time and even then its a massive risk, and spend your time writing articles about whats happened so far with the bid, building links and search engine results, and by 2017 you could have a big bid coming your way, till then be wary of men in furry hats knocking at your door.

At present I would value it at the reg fee, its too risky for people to buy due to the TM.

I would just put a simple site on it with a contact form so the domain gains some history and potential buyers can contact you.

With regards to qualifying, will have to hope for you that england, scotland, NI or Wales qualifies.. One out of 4 chance so at least one should make it :p

And even the fifa could reach you through that contact for as I am pretty sure you will have the fifa or fa chasing you down for that name in the coming years

Oh, I wish I was ion charge of any FIFA DRS Claims...

"Well techically your rights are better than any one elses in this case, you are the established rights holder. But we are now looking to give domains to the emerging market and it's only fair that FIFA domain names are given to these types of new and emerging web owners to see if they can develop their products.
