Wordpress CSV and Datafeed Import Plugin

might be to do with the version of linux and/or php you're running and if PEAR is enabled on your hosting account ?

Hi all sorry for the delay in getting back to everyone, please do remember I have a full time job!!!

I do have a couple of known issues, both of which are specific to versions and server setups

1. MySQL permissions error - Specific to a version or versions of MySQL

2. Tables not getting created - Very specific issue, but have replicated it so I am working on a fix

I have not found any issues with zip files, please note that it only supports zip and not any other archive (Eg gzip) I am hoping to add gzip support.

If you are struggling with zipped extensions and you are sure you have the relevant zip components setup on your server and in php then please provide the URL to them via PM to me and I will test.

With the unique field you need to make sure it is unique, as the plugin is designed to look for any references, if it finds one for the row it is processing it will update rather than create a new post. As I have said in emails to people I am looking at an improvement to this, but I would hate to loose the ability to update posts.

The problem only happens if your datafeed does not have a unique identifier, this is frustrating that some merchants do not provide one but I am in constant communication with networks to try and get them to improve their datafeeds as any script you are creating that deals with those datafeeds would need a unique field if you are wanting to update.

Hope this helps

Matt,

Perhaps you could give us a minimum system requirements type of list, regarding hosting, mysql, server set up etc.

Thanks.

Helloooooooooooooooooo ??

You've responded to neither my PM nor my email, and as it stands, I have a plugin that I paid £25 for that doesn't work for me.

Let's just get this sorted ........................

So its time for me to eat my words guys...

Although this plugin at first was working fantastic and I didnt have any of the starting problems, its now falling apart at the seams for me...

On reimport of the feeds it is now bringing them in as random garbage and making the feed unusable. I have spent hours and hours trying to get it running with no luck.

Its quite funny how digitalquill was talking to me every 5 minutes when I was singing this plugins praises, but now I have a problem im being ignored...

I have been giving more support to users than he has trying to get the plugin working for them.

As I said to him in pm, if you have a fulltime job and cant give support or needed updates then dont charge £25 for the plugin. Was there any point in opening a support forum??

Why not use
CSV To Wordpress Post v2 Plugin

Yes its my script! and no im not promoting it, its already been posted so im just letting people know it works great with the latest wordpress version but it doesn't support anything like tags, or time stamps, but its very very easily modified. And best of all its free, i don't gain anything from it.

I've had over 5,000 downloads of the script, which is available in plugin or manual.

And i've had 2-3 successful datafeed blog/sites, its very easy to make unique content from feeds with a little bit of a twist and change here and there. my most profiting data feed site makes around £800-900 per month for the last year!

I don't offer support with errors and stuff, but if you get errors it might be because of conflicting plugins so disable everything try the csv plugin then re-enable everything again.

It lags with big data feed files, and it might hang when uploading, but just upload leave it 5 mins and come back to it, lots of server lag etc.

Best thing i've found for testing with this plugin is install a local web server like MAMP, bang wordpress on and have a play around!

enjoy!.

All

I am very sorry that some of you seem to have problems with the plugin. I have 100s of users all using the plugin without any problems.

I do not deny that there are some known issues these being:

1. The database user privilege check occasionally falsely reports a problem
2. Database tables are not created on some specific versions of MySQL
3. The Scheduled Import system does not work with some feeds, although as of yet I can not replicate this issue.

Any other issues raised are not issues with the plugin. Can I repeat that they only archive supported by the plugin are Zip files, the issues that people are reporting here all seem to be due to Gzipped files being used. I have added this as a wish list for the plugin and will develop a method of dealing with them.

I do not log into this forum every day, and PM's on here do not allow me to match you up with your account on my system and as such it proves difficult to track issues. Can I request people email me with any problems and I will get back to you.

As far as I know I have got back to everyone with problems. I am unfortunately only able to support the plugin, any issues with server setups I can give advice on but I am unable to provide support on that.

It has been requested that I post the minimum requirements, those are on my website:

Wordpress Datafeed Plugin

As for server spec I am sure you will appreciate this will very much depend on what you are doing, what else the server is doing, the size and complexity of the datafeed, the complexity of the template etc etc. I have sites running on very low power VPS servers with 64mb of RAM, but equally I would not expect that to handle Datafeeds of half a gigabyte as one user is expecting, however my dedicated server happily handles that datafeed.

I hope this helps. I will repeat that I will give refunds to anyone for whom the plugin is not working but only where the plugin is at fault, not where the server or datafeed is at fault.

Kind Regards

Matt Houldsworth

If you want to have a look, i've put this script onto Radio Controlled Cars -

does its job as a csv feed. a few tweaks possibly needsed for navigation and appearance. So if you want to get heads together ....

And Matt responds quickly to emails.

Digitalquill

I sent you my wordpress login details- you didnt even have a look!
instead you said make sure you have unchecked the gzip radio at affiliate window- is this a standard answer that you ping back to people? you clearly have not been reading my many emails or you would know i did this from the start.
ANYONE THINKING OF BUYING THIS PLUGIN WATCHOUT - digitalquill states

yet is unwilling to accept that in my case, & he thinks im still trying to upload a gzip file - WTF

I have PHP 5.2.11 + MySQL 4.1.22

UPDATE

just heard back from my host support
I can confirm that our PHP does have Zip, cURL and PEAR installed by default.

so thats php 5 + mysql 4 and the above with root access on a unix box - still no joy this plugin is faulty

When will we see an upgrade?

Even with daily updates turned off the feeds are still corrupting daily and deleting my posts/content....

This isnt good. Will be looking for a refund soon if it isnt sorted.

lets hope he dosnt work weekends and can sort of the script. or it looks like he will be refunding everyone...

I doubt it, the last communication i got from him was denying it was broken and insisting it was because i uploaded a gzip - not a zip!!

just tried this on a completly different host - and it worked!!:) for 1 upload of awin feed, then when I went into the edit feed options and the random text came back.... and it broke again :(

Its definatly got some bug in it somewhere..
Im going to try and fix it and help others too - as Digitalquil obviously has no idea whats going on with his own plugin and has since refused my refund and ignored me.

Thats the problem im having. Plugin seems to work really really well at first. Then you go to edit or reimport and it just inserts aload of random junk...

Its just a real shame that everyone is getting ignored.

well ive purchased another plugin from soneone else now so i also would like a refund please. If the plugin author could pm me with when i will recieve the refund that would be great.

Hey Paul,

Which plugin did you buy ?

*slaps self...must write my own*.
