Here's what wordpress.org say about using wordpress domains

For various reasons related to our WordPress trademark, we ask if you’re going to start a site about WordPress or related to it that you not use “WordPress” in the domain name. Try using “wp” instead, or another variation. We’re not lawyers, but very good ones tell us we have to do this to preserve our trademark. Also, many users have told us they find it confusing.

If you already have a domain with “WordPress” in it, redirecting it to the “wp” equivalent is fine, just as long as the main one users see and you promote doesn’t contain “WordPress” and in the long term you should consider transferring the old one to the Foundation.

Stay well clear... likely to DRS you or worse faster than you can say Matt Mullenweg is a c...

you answered your own question with that section you quoted

Steer clear! Value less than £0 and poss DRS costs

Well I think you are all probably right but I'm going to dig deeper. Cos bizarrely it's only just occurred to me to simply ask them very least they might let me use it to redirect. And if they want it they can have it. Big fan of WordPress. But worth doing on the off chance they say the hyphen positions it beyond their area of interest.

Thanks for the responses though.

Completely aside from the trademark issue I cant understand why you would want to use it.

Everyone who uses WordPress is very familiar with the fact that the official site (for self-hosted) is wordpress.org and wordpress.com for the non self-hosted blogs.

Having a domain that is so similar (yet not identical) to either of these just sounds dodgy. If I was searching for something Wordpress related and I came across that domain I would automatically steer clear on that basis.

There are plenty good .com's available beginning WP which you'd be much better using IMHO

Just develop your own brand, you'll be more successful that way.
