Will we find out how its working today ?

only the large registrars like coherent, will be able to snatch the good one as they have large sufficient credits to meet Nominet criteria

I took it as EPP create requests, DAC limit is same as usual. Could be wrong!

Well if that's the case then there's room for some playing with dac quota if you can only try and purchase once every 6 seconds anyway.

If this applies to EPP creates only, then we need to understand DAC query limits and whether they differ from now, and if not, what sort of time period the drops will be over, if just 2pm dump and moments after, there would be no limit to your queries!

Its just a 2pm dump, but you have a limit on epp creates (successful or not)

All the domains in the release will be put into five batches in alphabetical order. One batch will be released at 14:00 BST (UTC+1) every day from 1st July through to 5th July 2019 inclusive. All domains in a batch will become available at the same time. Any unregistered domains from each batch will become available in the standard .UK EPP one week after their initial release.

For example, if the quota is 10 requests per rolling 60 seconds and requests are received as follows:

  • 14:30:02 – 5
  • 14:30:03 – 3
  • 14:30:04 – 2
Further create requests will be rejected until 14:31:02 when a further 5 requests will become available.

Why then they give this example? It seems not "dump them all" process but I am not sure though

I assume they have said "9 per minute" for those that may pick up domains later in the day; but ultimately, if they are all available at 2pm, you will literally just have to put all 9 creates in to 1 domain and hope it isn't too fast/slow, or 1 create per domain and limit yourself to the realization that you have 9 chances of picking up to 9 contested domains with very little odds.

sounds like a complete waste of time. Set up to advantage large registrars as per usual.

Echo of most of the above comments :(

Wondering if it worth the effort to build the system into domainjunky

At the end of the day, what it still comes down to is end users don't give a monkeys about .uk domains.

The only non-catch customers who've bought the .uk have been for the brand protection reasons like buying the .com as well.

Even though I didn't support the launch of .uk, I think you'll see a lot of use of .uk in the coming years. Talking to an entertainer the other day and he has developed the .uk for his own site (and has .co.uk pointed to it). He just felt .uk was better.

Anyone else wishing they had opted for the highest anticipated registrations bracket? :D

Has anyone asked if they can upgrade the number in order to get more requests per minute or was that the reason to set the deadline?

I got the impression that it was the figure worked out based on *current* credit/registrations and bracket applied for. So you can deposit money with them or negotiate higher credit facilities and get it re-evaluated next month.

Nominet just got back to me

"Each registrar who has signed up to the RoR release has been allocated an initial number of registration attempts, based purely on the number of domains they told us they intended to register during the release period. That means registrars with larger numbers of attempts are not all big registrars, but those that intend registering high volumes of domains.

To balance this, and ensure we are being fair to end users, we want a level of confidence that each registrar has the funds in place to cover the costs of this number of registrations. If you would like to register a larger number of domains than you initially advised us of please email me the number of domains you intend to register, and add funds to your account to cover the value of these registrations. Unallocated funds can be added to your account in the ‘Billing Summary’ section of your account.

The final allocation for each registrar will depend on how many total registrations are requested and the number of accounts signed up. The more registrations and accounts then the fewer attempts will be given to each registrar as we can't exceed a certain number as we need to protect our systems. Once we are in a position to see this (i.e. by midday on the 21st June) we can then finalise the allocation of attempts per registrar and will communicate this to each contact w/c24th June."

That's copy/paste.
I asked them what the bracket allocations were - we know of 6,9,60 - they sent me that exact same email.
I asked them again - nothing. That is the email they're going to send in answer to *any* question related to the uk release :p

I cant remember the original tiers. was it 1-100, 101-1000,1000 +

If so, would that imply if we funded accounts with 4 grand the quta would go up to 60 posssibly ?

Not much point if some registrars have 600 or 6000 though. Nominet *could* tell us but won't which means they think we won't like the answer.

Asked about paypal funding... received the exact same email as above. It seems that nominet have replaced all customer service representatives with a bot. Admittedly they did address my question in a line at the end.

So has anyone seen a rate higher than 60/minute?
