Whois opt-out has 'opted in' on Sedo. Why?

Quite by chance, I noticed that a group of my names sitting on Sedo have had the Whois opt-out removed. Maybe in some drunken stuper i went to the trouble of cancelling the opt-outs (I rather doubt that), but I'm wondering if/what mechanism may actually have done this. Was it the nameserver change perhaps at Sedos' end, opting me back in? Or does Nominet have a default opt-in for Sedo (and on other revenue generating sites)?

I'm not going to dispute the fact that Nominet might be applying the letter of the law here, if it is them doing this, fair enough, I shouldn't be earning about 50p over a 2 year period to make each domain pay towards their upkeep.

I'm just interested to know if there is some automated voodoo going on, and who is doing it!

PPC is classed as trading so Nominet probably removed the opt-out. Sedo would have no means to remove the opt-out.

You sure you didn't get an email from Nom? They usually email you giving you 24 hours notice. Either remove the names from Sedo or they'll turn off opt-out and show your contact details in whois.

No email at all. I can only presume Nominet is scanning domain names against obvious nameservers, and then changing the settings as it sees fit.

I don't know why it happened in your case, but I can confirm that Nominet sees parking as a commercial use of a domain name, because mine got uncloaked years back (when I used to park with Sedo and NameDrive).

You know you are doing ok , therefore appearing on someones radar, when you have a bulk opt out on names!

Nominet are quite reactionary when it comes to this type of thing so I guess someone reported you...

Well, I have just checked the Whois for the Sedo list, and it's neither Nominet nor Sedo, it's Heart Internet.

The Sedo batch is made up of 123-Reg & Heart Internet registrations, it's only the Heart Internet ones that the 'opt-out' has failed on. Furthermore, I've widened the Whois list and checked every one of my Heart Internet ones, whether they are on Sedo or not, and with the exception of any hand regged from 17th April 2010 onwards, the 'opt-out' was cancelled on the lot of them! That includes non-Sedo, private use, .co.uk , .org.uk & .me.uk domains. They must have had some sort of system problem prior to the 17th April, but I dont recall being informed about it.

Check your Heart domains guys, see if the same has happened to you (if you were opted out of course).

Added Note:
Now i've just gone to re-opt-out, and Heart is saying I already am by virtue of showing an 'Opt in' button. WTF is that all about!
