Who owns morewine.co.uk

Hi All,

few world from myself - owner/former owner of domains.

Yesterday got message from Adam H. with question about ownership of the domains.
Before I even got look at what's going on - got email from Sedo that one of them got sold. Few minutes later got email from Sedo Transfer and Escrow Dep. that they got payment for transfer of co.uk address.
Followed simply steps on Sedo/Nominet website and that's it.

As I've been on meetings, never managed to look into whole situation properly.

After that I've got message from Denchomsky regarding domains. I assumed it wasn't him who purchased the website so just wanted to verify it with email address ( never realised he would publish it in here).
Let's face it - after it all will be done, it won't be that hard to check who's the new owner ?

What a calamity of errors this deal has been; seller giving out buyer information, and buyer potentially hijacking a domain following a post on here made (I assume) in good faith. Suspect the buyer has now bought themselves a £299 door-stop.

Hi. Didn't know you were a member on the forum.

Apologies if this has put you in a slightly awkward spot, I never published the email address of the buyer just the domain they owned and as you know I didn't ask you for this info.
As you can imagine I was pretty pissed off that someone would do this, not for my sake as it's not my business but my client has had the chance to own the domain he wanted for his established business denied by a greedy selfish git for the sake of a couple of hundred quid.

You have been thoroughly decent in this situation and I thank you for that.

Yep, could have been simple. I enquired in good faith. This purchase had absolutely no financial benefit for me just trying to help my client out as he asked if I could help him find out who owned the domain. Now I am going to have to tell him I found out but some a'hole hijacked it. This was a definite hijack and no coincidence. The person knew exactly what they were doing.

And yet as we don't know who it this thread really now serves no purpose. Maybe the admins want to close it?

Neither person who it was suggested it could be has denied it or given any explanation if it was not them, so what do we make of that? I don't know if Alex has even seen the thread yet , though I am pretty sure it wasn't him, but I would be interested in what he has to say considering he owned it (bennevis.co.uk that is) in February this year.

EDIT: It could have been Alex, I was looking at the edited time stamp of the original post and not the original, my assumptions were based on Alex's last time stamp visit to the site.

You would be correct about the domain seller illegally sharing data.

However, denchomsky then used that data to look into things and to link domains to specific usernames, which he can not legally do. You can not use or store information you should not legally have access to.

Doesnt actually work like that as he's not stored or used publically, any personally identifiable information. As far as the GDPR is concerned he's added info of publically available information, based on usernames and domain names. There is nothing personally identifiable from those two aspects.

If however he had shared the full email address, and only if that email address had a personal name on it which could link an individual such as a business email with reciptants name. i.e :
Then that could potentially be an issue, but nothing this thread has disclosed... is an issue regarding GDPR.

I do however find it very interesting how you being one of those parties potentially involved hasnt denied it, but have got rather defensive spouting GDPR gibberish.

Thanks for the heads up. I no longer own BenNevis.co.uk. It wasn't me if anyone believes it is.

Thanks for the clarification Alex. Didn't think it would be something you would do.

it's pretty sad to see someone post a thread asking for a little advice on this forum, only for another member to try and shaft them over.

I guess with the lack of any denial by the only other person suspected of this deceitful act we will have to make our own assumptions.

Of course their lack of denial does not prove any guilt, but I suspect most decent people that might find themselves implicated in something like this would deny it as soon as it came to their attention, like Alex did.

Thanks to all the people that genuinely tried to help on this thread.

I guess you mean by 'mistake' that I provided the opportunity to be exploited by an unscrupulous deceitful member?

So just to be clear, you don't own bennevis.co.uk?

Personally, I believe the situation is very dodgy from your end.

You're not new to domain selling. You've sold (or have attempted to sell) a lot of low price domains here. You know what you're doing when it comes to selling/buying domain and it seems very hard to believe you didn't know how to do basic searches to find the domain owner and didn't know/think to search on websites like Sedo and other selling platforms to check availability.

You came on asking how to contact a domain owner, when the domain was being sold at a very popular and industry leading domain platform (whilst being syndicated to other platforms due to that). You "happened" to post the exact client wanting to buy it and the price of the domain was extremely over-priced for what was basically a hand-reg value domain, which is the near-enough the value of domains you tend to try and sell.

I don't personally own the domain the thread was started about. I don't think it's a very good name personally.

In regards to who owns the domain in question, the domain is private and who.is retracted so the owner obviously doesn't want that information public. You shouldn't go pointing fingers.

Not sure the domain has actually sold though as I believe the domain is still in ownership of the seller.

If someone has bought it to be 'unscrupulous deceitful', I hope they sell the domain to the owner for £50 or less to protect this forum from the reasons I think this thread was started for.

Don't try and twist it mate. I had absolutely nothing to gain from the post. I was just trying to help a client out. Obviously not everyone thinks the way you do.

Anyway, I didn't ask if you owned morewine.co.uk I asked if you owned bennevis.co.uk

@denchomsky, you said you had the guys email address. You obviously can't post it because of the way you retained it. However if they have publically posted it them selves, such as in their own bennevis.co.uk website privacy policy ( which they rightly should for GDPR ) then maybe you could confirm it's the same email for clarity.

Also have you contacted the seller again to see if said party has maybe backed out due to the heat of the thread ?

Your assumptions look like they may be correct.

Googled morewine, did you guys know there's a .wine extension? who would think .wine is a good idea

Just an update for those interested.
The original buyer (hijacker) pulled out of the purchase on Sedo, once they realised they wouldn't be able to sell it on at a profit.

I negotiated the purchase of the domain privately with the seller and my client now has it.

Half a day of my life wasted  but the correct result in the end. :)
