Agree with you on that Foz and the bizzare situation where the need for more funds means that this non profit organisation strips £3m off businesses and individuals in a domain auction for .co.uk domains just over a year ago. Then they proudly announce they have given it all away. Then they announce a consultation on a better and 'more secure' alternative to .co.uk without the slightest thought about the businesses and individuals that have been fleeced, and are sitting there with a devalued investment, and the prospect of a mighty battle to get back what's rightfully theirs. Yes, I agree they are a dichotomy and a heartless one at that.

The members have to shoulder their share of the blame for allowing the company to be in a position to do as it pleases!

The way nominet was set up means that the ordinary registrant (unless they have their own tag) has absolutely no say in how nominet is run. That's not right. Didn't a couple of ordinary domain investors get elected to the board a few years back? We thought a little bit of long overdue balance was at last being brought to the decision making. Unfortunately, what I have read, is that an anxiety surfaced at nominet, in the belief that 'domainers' were trying to take over. I also read that these 'domainers' were excluded from a lot of the discussions. I don't know all the facts but I think there is a real problem that ordinary registrants have no say and no spokesman. Who, at nominet, is speaking up for the .co.uk registrants that will lose out if direct.uk gets introduced?

Is there anyone who has the legal skills to write a letter template, where owners of .co.uk domains can send it to nominet outlining things like..

It was assumed that the .co.uk was the top level domain, shown through your own web site many times etc, asking for their name to be put aside for them should the .uk go ahead, and not to release it before contacting me so I can take legal advice. plus lots of other things like loss of business etc

Surely if, and I know it would be a pain for the people who own lots, people sent these in, nominet would have to address them, otherwise they would leave themselves open should a registrant take legal action.

The bigger the common sense paper trail the better chance of winning a case.

RE earlier post, sad fact that the US buyers will snap everything up.

Practically impossible until they finalize what’s actually happening if there smart they’ll keep everyone in the dark feed them misinformation, rumor, speculation go through the motions meetings etc approach and as far as I’m aware others of this type .us .in there were shouts of the same from some quarters but no cases won? Unless nom are incredibly stupid (answers on a postcard too?) Doubt they’ll give out much ammunition with the co.uk situation in reality..

I think also the auction route could be interesting especially eligibility wise e.g. org.uk co.uk me.uk? trademarks whatever they decide etc If you’re have a few is it worth getting caught up in a bidding war to secure a small number e.g. 1k to 10k estimated co.uk value ones which in many domainers case’s are unlikely to be developed etc spending xxxxx or using that to “claim” whole swathes of prime real estate at knock down prices with cattle barons, prospectors and free grazers,,,

DRS being so busy the poor judges will not have time to sip there champagne or nibble there canapé I raise my Stetson to nom for truly establishing the UK as one of the true Wild West frontier cctld's for years to come

Not if members they were mislead or duped into voting a certain way.

Which thread?

As this thread appears to have no pro .uk content

Is it not better to continue any .uk discussion, observations, news etc on the ".uk announced" thread with its 223 pages?

And leave this thread for genuine pro .uk comments?

4) Sums "stolen" straight from the pockets of businesses to give as largesse to non-profit endeavours as Nominet sees fit (you only have to see all the gleeful headlines about the work of the Nominet Trust to see what a kick they get out of this part of their remit!)
5) Clout in government and policy-making circles

Only 1-3 really relate to their business, 4) is ridiculous (I've posted many times about "forced" charitable contributions not being contributions at all) and 5) is for the self-gratification of the Board/Executive.

Couldn't agree more - the whole .UK idea is to satisfy certain senior management desires to get knighted, hold power and of course justify monetary bonuses for having created so much money for charity - period!

Yet again I would love someone to prove me wrong and give just one reason why .UK is actually NEEDED.

I can't wait for the legal bunfight citing Cowley et al (The Directors) for loss of earnings, costs to business etc. Serves them right.

So in answer to the OP of the thread - no positive love for a truly sh1t idea.
