I was born in London, lived in Blandford for 20 years and just moved to Poole a month ago. The girlfriend is Poole born and bred though.

I think personal plates are cheap and nasty.

You can tell what car a particular plate is on but not who owns it.

A few years back there used to be a book published that had a big list of numbers, owners and their location.

I believe this was opt in / manual created list etc. it did have histories on some plates of interest eg. A1 .

Not sure if they still do it due to DPA and every pikey and his three legged dog having a 'personalised' plate.

There is a program in australia called 'the chaser' which rips it out of stuff - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGyH8Kf_0Fg is their take off of '****** numberplates' issuing fines
