I'm currently building my LinkedIn network so will probably be looking to jump in to a contracting gig. If I don't secure one before notice ends then I'll probably throw myself full time in to some online projects. I had thought about domain brokering too buy that again will take day job types of hours to take it up seriously.

Friday is my final day at the day job! No plans for the future yet, still so much to finish off that I'm going to take some time to re-group and make a decision on what the next steps will be!

I do have an opportunity from a previous ops director who I'm meeting on Tuesday next week to discuss some systems design freelance work so I'll see what's on offer there!

All the best, it's a big jump, can be scary, but if you can pay the mortgage, food and utility bills then the rest is a bonus AND you are in control.

It can seem odd initially with periods of no (or small) income, but take the time without contract to learn a new skill and as long as your bank balance doesn't drop below your safety net you'll be OK.

Thanks @monaghan I'm very relaxed about it and am of the "back yourself" camp! I've got plenty of contacts so it's a case of re-grouping and then deciding where to focus my efforts!

Ha, I know the problem with demonstrating systems integration! I've been doing a lot of e-commerce work and it's quite difficult to visualize black box code that talks to back-end API's and fiddles with data on the fly and has no visible output

We were at my sister's at the weekend and there was an advert for a product I recognised and I exclaimed "if you buy that it will go through my code to get from the on-line shop to the delivery warehouse" and nobody was at all impressed

Process automation is probably quite a hard sell (in the sense that it takes a typical lengthy B2B sales dance to secure a client) but each contract should, I suspect, be quite lucrative once it's been won.

1.5 days after finishing my job I picked up my first contracting role. New role starts mid May and is for an initial 3 month contract with the possibility of extension. Work from home days each week and the commute is half my previous one!

It's days like today that makes it all worth while, spent the morning working ( while in the garden instead of office ). Last couple of hours finishing off the new decking and cutting the grass. Little girl will be home soon, so the paddling pool will be out, get the BBQ on the go nice and early and enjoy the evening with some Wine/beer.

AND a rare weekend where I've been sensible and booked no work what so ever until Tuesday.......Ok I lie.....Monday but it will be light duties on Monday
