I am not very technical when it comes to websites and setting them up, looking for someone willing to help with a wordpress site set up hosting etc. I don't really know where to start so any advice or help would be great. I can use wordpress for content, but haven't actually set up a website in this way before.

Thanks

Lauren

It's not that hard to set up a wordpress website

1. Get yourself a linux hosting account (ask them if they have Fantastico)
2. Go to your registrar and change the DNS
3. Look for Fantastico in your cpanel, select wordpress(...it's a 3 clicks install...just follow the steps)
4. Log into your wp admin and set up your site title, description, permalinks, install a theme and a couple of plugins.
5. Done!

PM me if you have any questions

Hope this helps

Cheers

Kinda helps, though it's more a case of not understanding what something are, and potentially being in trouble if I go wrong...I've never heard of fantastico or used word press plugins.....it could well be ok if I tried doing all these stages myself, though I'm a littler wary never having done it before, thanks for the tips though.

Do you have hosting already? If so, ask your host and they will probably help you do a basic setup.

Have a look in your control panel for an icon labelled "Fantastico" or "Installtron" or "Software Installer" as many hosts have these and as mentioned above, a few clicks later you will have installed your chosen software.

No, no hosting, as I said before I work as a writer and a journalist, so I have never had to set up a website of any scale before, using free drag and drop systems etc.

Hmm,

2 options

1. Managed hosting, pay extra for someone else to do the technical bits. I'm not here to advertise, but we do manage some of our customers cPanel accounts for them.

2. Learn :) It really isn't that difficult with modern hosting control panels, and you seem to have mastered the techniques needed for a forum, so a simple WP install & setup shouldn't be much more complicated than creating your forum account.

I'll get you up and running.
Either if you want me to "just do it" or if you want me to guide you through the process.

Just PM me when you are ready.

If you're really new to this I would consider suggesting you sign up for free WordPress hosting at http://wordpress.com it's perfect for new users, it's managed by WordPress themselves so you don't need to worry about security. You just focus on content.

Downsides are it's more limited to self hosted wordpress sites but it's a great place to start.

This would give you a chance to get familiar with WordPress you can always redirect your own domain name to it so it's still managed by them, and if you eventually decide you have outgrown wordpress.com you can easily export your site and go self hosted.
