Almost like a damage limitation exercise for the .uk fiasco? And what's the betting that in about...say 11 months... nominet bring in a new rule stating that registrars can take over domains that aren't renewed without them entering the drop cycle?
Well they got the date of the public release wrong! I suspect they've got it wrong on purpose, so they can delete the domains if not claimed prior to their billing date. I wonder how much they are charging to 'claim' your own domains back in the next couple of weeks!!!A possible reason for the sudden splurge of .uk registrations is that I've noticed just recently all the .co.uk domains names I have with Ukreg (Fasthosts), the .uk equivalent (where I've not claimed) is now showing Unavailable as the registrar has "secured all unclaimed .uk domain names for eligible Fasthosts registrant until Jul 2019" to "help those who miss the deadline".
Does this mean Fasthosts will effectively have first dibs on any decent .uk domains that go unclaimed and are registered with them, prior to the public offering?!
