what are peoples thought to values between the two for generic domains ....

for example plumbers.co.uk v plumbers.uk , trainers.co.uk v trainer.uk

are end users actually typing in .uk names ? or is it just for ppc traffic via google ?

Have a scan / search through the forums.... there are plenty of threads with lots of views on this !

If you are a brand that wants to present a modern and simple image, .uk is a good choice, especially for companies with an international vision. On the contrary, .co.uk is more traditional, especially for companies that focus on the UK market. It has a wide range of recognition and trust among British consumers. If your goal is to establish a localized corporate image, .co.uk is still the first choice.
