Anyone mixing UK extensions in posts will be asked if they can split them out, I agree its better.

Would it be to much to ask for (complicated) for this type of structure to be implemented in the UK section(s);

This is already possible with the "Prefix" option, but relies on people using it and using it accurately.

This allows you to search by UK TLD type already.

Perhaps make those "Prefix" options the default setting for each forum and sub forum as proposed above. That way the search function will still work, and will put an end to mixed post's.

A traffic/revenue section in the UK area, would be a good idea also.
