I don't think there is any place in this discussion for religion, not everyone here shares a religion and some have no religious beliefs at all. Argue a case for decency if you want but this has nothing to do with your religion. If something on a website truly offends your religious beliefs then don't visit that website again, there are several million others.

I don't find the adult domains offensive.

OK there is a forum Group called "Adult Forum" that is optional to join:
http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/profile.php?do=editusergroups

Can someone who IS a member of this group tell me what they see on the homepage and in searches?

And someone who IS NOT a member of this group, tell me the same.

Many thanks

Admin

Im a member and see on the home page:

It was the Dailyw--k thread title that kind of got me thinking is it right that when you browse todays posts it should be right there in your face. Nothing more or nothing less than that. I know it's hard to legislate for taste but wanted other member views.

I am not a member of the group and I can't see the adult section in the forum, or on my searches

Thanks Admin. This seems like a good solution and should keep everyone happy.

Rgds

Admin, my religion forbids me from seeing any .org.uk or .me.uk domains and I become very offended if they appear in my search.

Can you please ban these and all posters who refer to them with immediate effect.
:D

Great thanks, it is now optional by member choice if they see the Adult section or not. Guests don't see it at all.

How will new members to the forum know that there is an adult section if only members of the group can see it? I'm a member of that group so can't see what's been put in place?

Cheers, Grant

I can't believe religion has been allowed to play a part on here. Distaste is one thing but but as an existential nihilist, I find most religious stuff offensive.

I assume I can trust those quoting the bible and related, will ofcourse observe the Sabbath and thus no work on Saturday or Sunday (for completeness).

*shakes head*

Let's live and let live. A religion is a belief system, a way of life. If you don't have a religion, you still have a belief system, whether based on science, anarchy or whatever, and a way of life based on how you choose to live.

OK religions also have a political hierarchy, and a glance at history will show that in certain religions that hierarchy has been responsible for murdering huge numbers of people, hence many people have turned against religion nowadays. And for that matter the elite in each religion are taught a completely different interpretation of the scriptures, relating to the occult, astrology and other esoteric subjects, yet keep that knowledge to themselves and maintain the mundane literal interpretation for the masses.

But in perspective, the political element is not in this forum. It's just that some members find adult thread titles offensive within the belief system through which they perceive the world. And since we all perceive the world through a belief system of one kind or another I think they should have equal say and we should respect their perspective and be willing to compromise whether their perspective stems from their religious beliefs or otherwise.

I'm sure I could think of dozen reasons against it from decency to taste to business to personal choice, without saying it offends whatever dragon, klingon warrior, unicorn, xenu, man-horse, god, fairy or other mythical/magical being you choose to believe in.

By all means believe in volcano dwelling aliens from outer space (nudge nudge Tom Cruise), but don't push those beliefs on others.

Now Esoteric Knowledge as you've mentioned it, intrigues me :)

From a practical point of view, there's absolutely no place for religion here IMHO. Political threads seem to be at a minimum which is good. If you want to see how politics and religion wreck a forum, you only have to look at DNF.
