Excuse my ignorance on all of this, can i register a free to reg .uk in Nominets web domain manager ( i am a tag holder/member)?

You can but only 1 week after the release so 0-b will be available via the WDM on Monday at 2pm. c-f will be available next Tuesday and so on...

Was able to register my first name. Used one of the backordering sites but chances were that I could've manually done it.
Never done this before, so we're most of you running your own scripts? Do you run these on like digitalocean etc or a specialised environment?

I doubt you'd have manually registered a first name unless it's really obscure. I'm using Aarons script on my own physical server, based in a London datacenter.

Yeah it's a risk, It's just the £50 fee pains me a little lol. I'll use it as a landing page probably and email.
So I'm guessing you register with nominet then run this script with your details and domains etc at the correct time and hope for the best. What are the fees like per domain.

£480 Nominet membership (one-off), £120 registrar fee (annual), then £4.50 per domain (including VAT). Based on a normal price of £10/domain, the annual price becomes cheaper if you have more than 22 domains. Once you account for the membership fee and the various offers you can get from some registrars, you need more like 50 domains to make it worthwhile.
