Tesco Cars

I don't see what is wrong with supermarkets forcing shops to close down it's just commercial evolution.

Think about it a little harder. A supermarket enters an area, undercuts the incumbent traders who shut down, and then they are free to hike the prices up. Which they do, and then some. They've got the resources to buy up plots of land that other supermarkets might use to compete with them.

The point is that monoculture is ultimately bad for you, however unfortunately most consumers are too lazy to realise this, and end up getting fleeced by the likes of Tesco.

Excellent. More Tesco haters.
I too hate them with a passion and will not shop at their stores.

Not intent on sucking the life out of towns, they then go back in and open their own little "corner shop" called Tesco Express once they have undercut and put the independent family shops out of business.

They will go for anything. I think the only thing left in the high st they have not targeted yet is Greggs. No doubt this will come.

They have just taken on Game and all the little independent gaming shops by now offering trade-ins and also buying second hand games. Do they honestly need this? No of course not but they want to be king. I'm sure I read somewhere they are now piloting in store hair dressers.

This is freekin awesome. Forget the hate for a moment. This is simply an awesome consumer proposition.

I'm pretty sure i'm like 99% of the population that know jack about the inner workings of cars. I dont want to trawl autotrader and drive up and down the country dealing with liar after liar Phil Mitchell type car dealers.

I can get myself a 3 year old totally mint example of whatever I want for cheaper than I can get it elsewhere. I can even have it delivered to my front door for a small fee and get my nectar points. All in a few clicks.

Has anyone tried to buy a good quality cheap used car lately?? Its a fucking nightmare. People are skint and competition for used cars is fierce. Plus if anyone has one thats half way decent they are hanging onto it at present.

I just found a 3 year old Ford Focus estate a/c etc etc with like 10k miles for just over £5k. I'm going to buy it as my dog walking car and supermarket car. Its going to get minged up and battered but simply awesome value and saves so much time and bullshit.

Every little helps.

ps, I shop in Waitrose and cant stand Tescos but this for me, right now, and I'm pretty sure lots of other people is going to be good.

I can't forget the hate.

How do you know the car is going to be minted?

They are all fleet cars they are selling. Like the ones I used to shag the ass out of for 2yrs and then get given another new one. In all the time I had company cars (12yrs) I never once moved over when I saw the gritter coming the opposite way

They are offering the same warranty you get from your local dealer. Sorry, maybe I am old school but I would not spend £5k on a car without seeing it first.

Now, If it was like Amazon, that would be fine. Get it delivered and if you don't like it, print out a barcode, slap it on the windscreen and wait for someone to pick it up

..............

On a side note, here's a little story about Tesco dominance.
Bicester: poulation 30,000
Tesco stores: 6

You get to view all the HD pics. You get to see the RAC test drive video and read the RAC report before hand.

I'm pretty sure (maybe naively) as a consumer buying your vehicle off the internet in this fashion you actually have more protection should the car turn out to be cloned, crashed, clocked etc etc which is another reason this will most likely succeed.

Well, I'd like one of these personally. :D

Wonder if Tesco will stock?! ;)

best way in getting a nice car is:

firstly ring the main dealer and ask for the used car section ,when your put through ask if they have any part ex's for cheap ,they are always looking to move cars on and it saves them hassle sending them to auction..i used to sell them just to make room...:p

secondly ring the main dealer and ask for motorbility section ,ask if they have had any ex lease (motorbility) cars that they are willing to move on ,they will more than likely pass you on to the local motorbility team (they own them) ,and you can negotiate with them,if your clever make a note of every little bump, scrape and scratch and use this for negotiating....who dares win and all that (i have never done this and knocked £2500 from bottom book price honestly ;) )

Most cars sold in this fasion are a state when they are first bought by the companies. Panel damage, vandalism and other damage. They buy the cars at rock bottom prices, get cheap and cheerful repair work done, that the average Joe cant spot and then sell them on.

If it's all done online then I'm guessing any purchases through TescoCars.com will be covered by the Distance Selling Regulations (so a cooling off period would be required).

You're correct. You get to keep it for 7 days .....

22.1 The Seller hopes that you will be happy with your car purchase but should you wish to cancel your contract with the Seller for the purchase of the car you have the right to do so up to seven days after the Handover and you will be entitled to a refund from the Seller. Please note that your Handling Fee and Delivery Fee (if applicable) will not be refunded.

23.1 You promise that you will behave responsibly towards the Seller and you agree that, because the Seller gives you the right to change your mind when you buy a car (see paragraph 22 above), you will take reasonable care of the vehicle within the 7 day cooling off period.

If the OFT's guide to distance selling is correct then TescoCars.com may need to change the terms.

Read somewhere a while ago (especially related to eBay sellers) that many people don't know they are actually entitled to a refund of delivery charges, so most sellers get away with not refunding it.

3.48 What specifically do I have to refund to the consumer if they cancel?
The DSRs require you to refund any money paid by or on behalf of the consumer in relation to the contract to the person who made the payment. This means the full price of the goods, or deposit or prepayment made, including the cost of delivery. The essence of distance selling is that consumers buy from home and receive goods at home. In these circumstances, almost every case of home shopping will involve delivery of the goods ordered and so delivery forms an essential part of the contract.

fortunately you can buy a little gizmo that costs around a tenner that you hover over the bodywork and bleeps if it detects "non original" paintwork..if you go to a car auction you can see them in action...

Lol you mean it beeps when it doesn't detect metal ie filler.

Just incase your buying a small car that doesn't have metal based panels as it's useless.

If you think an RAC inspection and test drive is good enough to gaurantee a good car, you are very wrong. I would never spend 500 let alone 5k without checking it myself. RAC man is only going to do enough to satisfy the tickboxes on his sheet, it's not his money why should he care?

yes it would be great on a old skool renault espace, 99% plastic...no i think it detects fresh paint...you can never replicate original paint

For all you Tesco haters, this is what happened when Tesco opened a much opposed Express store near me in The People's Republic of Stokes Croft last night...

Stokes Croft Riot

Crikey, that was a raw reaction just looking quickly at the video.

There is no excuse for violence and willful destruction of property though in my opinion. :(
