I have a good friend who owns a Takeaway and I'd like to setup a website so that people can make orders online and he gets an email (no payment)

Just like just-eat.co.uk

I have similar sites that use ordering and could tweak and mould into a more fluid takeaway feel but I'm sure their must be something out there already for WordPress.

The feature which is important is the ease of picking out items and adding them to create an order!

If not thats a nice market to be had!

Any help gladly taken :)

This one from woo allows reservations to be made but it's more for restaurants - just booking tables / times rather than actual food: http://demo.woothemes.com/?name=diner

I haven't found anything specifically for take-aways with order by items yet.

Thanks fella,

Yeah thats just a standard theme dressed up for restaurants.

The biggest thing I think for the enduser is ease of ordering, not having to ok every item and to see what they have ordered as they browsing the menu.

Should be at all that hard to do but don't want to reinvent the wheel.

JUST EAT does this well.

There is a free WordPress shopping cart plugin which you could use with any theme and does what you need (i.e. emails order and doesn't require payment). Could work well for ordering menu items with a little tweaking as one of the good things is that it doesn't take you away from the page when you add things to the cart.

Just Eat

Just like just eat? - That site and business is worth over £30,000,000

The look and feel when people order is what I was after (and now got) as I didn't want to reinvent the wheel.

You said

as if i was trying to recreate it! The site build and they way it feels with an organic flow isn't worth £30million just the same as The domain Google.com is worth nothing without users and content.

This is just for a good friend I know who wants to let people order online instead of calling in.

I wanted it feeling and looking as easy as possible for endusers - Just Eat was the perfect example as it works.

BeverleyTakeaways.co.uk
just need to sort the end transaction error as they will be paying on delivery or collection. Just started on it so just getting it working first.

I hope you don't mind me asking but how does it work from the other end? Does your friend have a computer in his takeaway or does he just use his phone?

The site would work just like a simple contact form in reality and yes he's got a laptop to receive orders as an email. He would then call them up to confirm and meet any request like "no salad on one burger" "no pineapple on the ham pizza"

The deal with "Just Eat" is you pay something like £400 for a machine and setup that connects to your phone line like a fax I think and then it works a month in hand. So you's have to ship out a months worth of takeaway stock before you saw any money.

He wanted to do it but didn't want to have to lay out £xxxx's to setup and send out orders in 1st month.

So will they pay by cash on delivery as normal then? Because I think the main advantage of Just Eat is that you can pay by card if you want a takeaway but have no cash.

To start with, cash on delivery but the site has the option to add card payment if he feels he's missing out and gets feed back from people they want it.

Interesting, the cost of an SSL cert would properly be covered fairly quickly, but that would be the biggest factor in determining a host for this kind of thing as the prices vary so much.

You can get it for no set up fee and 10% an order. They give you a little box that just needs plugging in, has a sim card and a thermal printer inside all the orders are sent to it. Hungry House do the same

I assume your friend will call each customer to validate each order? Otherwise it could be very easy for dodgy orders.

I remember as a kid ordering pizza to be delivered to mates houses, this would make it so easy!

Yes he would call to confirm the order and also extras or requests. No salad on a burger etc
