Hi guys,

I want to get a domain and register the .uk, but the .co.uk has been suspended since Oct 2011.

I have queried this with Nominet, and they say its basically suspended and there is no time frame it will become un-suspended (brilliant Nominet, just brilliant). I asked them, if the owners domain is suspended and has been for years, then why am I unable to register the .uk version (that has no other rights, eg the .org.uk etc are still FTR). They have not replied yet, but can anybody shed any light or regulations etc on this?

Thanks

edit:
year was wrong, sorry. Updated.

I Have enquired about many names like this, always the same reason why from Nominet, they just plain out refuse to do anything. Nominet usually advise you get in contact with the current registrant if you can.. but surprise surprise Nominet won't give you any contact information.. Good luck! :)

Really annoys me that high quality domains are just in some suspended state forever more with no explanation to any regulator or anything. We just "have to take Nominets word on it".

thanks for the info mate.

Not really any different than some premium names in the hands of domainers then; never to see the light of day again :(

Had a number of these stuck in limbo, though did manage to get one released by Nominet which was on hold for a couple of years. Just a case of asking the right person; or asking over and over again!

Many of these names are suspended for criminal/legal reasons. Most are counterfeit goods, hate crime names, some completely innocent sounding names too. Others because they are tangle in ownership/death etc issues.

There is one which expired in 2009 I keep an eye on.
