I think this area has a high barrier to entry since high standards have been set by facebook and myspace.

Also a generic term for this kind of thing doesn't really have the 'cool' factor that a social networking site should have for it to catch on.

Just my opinion, would be interesting to see what others think

Yes, Ive had some interest for this domain, but its not been as much as I would have hoped. I appreciate its a keyword, but also that most people just know the social networking sites themselves. But figure that it may be of use at sometime in the future....

perhaps as google is trying to open the whole social network "thing" it might have a bit of use for developers etc etc.
