costs are about £8 for 2 years, or £6 for 1 year. Depends on who you have your domains with

After receiving countless requests via PM for my template, I have decided to make it public. Please make sure you change a few words here and there should you decide to use this highly-effective template:

Hello,

I am contacting some companies as one of the domain names we are selling could be of interest:

DVDPackaging.co.uk

Kindly let me know if your company would be interested in this domain.

Best regards,

Federer

Indeed very short and simple, sometimes the best method and has obviously worked well for you. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing Federer! Sometimes the simple methods get the best results.

Nice going Federer.

And Indeed short-is-sweet.

That I think works both ways - Theres nothing worse than a long-drawn out letter "requesting a domain" either - so it makes sense it should work both ways

Well Done!

How does the discussion re price usually go? Do they make an offer, or do you throw out a figure?

Some you've done for £250 this one for £500 - so how do you decide the price?

There are many factors that come into play. Some are these are related to the pool (large or small) of potential end buyers in the market or industry directly related to the domain's exact-match keywords.
Another factor is the end buyer's need/interest in the domain. A highly-desired, rare commodity can be sold for more than a moderately-desired one - of course, the buyer's budget thus comes into play.

FrankingSupplies dot co.uk went to what I consider to be the perfect end buyer - FrankingSupplies dot com - It makes perfect sense for this company to lock up the .co.uk
Could I have sold for more? Probably - but my business model is focused on moving a large quantity of domain assets for prices that I know can generate regular deals, and quickly.

I've managed to sell one for £400 - but after 3 days of emails (okay maybe 9 emails in total) I don't feel so upbeat - but then again I sent most of them today so hopefully might sell another or 2 from that.

You're doing brilliantly.

One more quick question if I may - you say you buy XYZ.co.uk and then do a search for X Y Z in Google and approach the first 50 or so websites.

However, your renewable energy products domain was sold to a company who don't show up in the first 20 or maybe 50 pages of results for that phrase - so how did you come by them?

Did you use some other method of searching, i.e some other search terms, and how did you determine them if that's the case?

I've only tried this a few times (I'm not really a domain trader), but I'm always amazed by the amount of abuse I receive in return. Last time I received a reply stating that "cybersitters", as he referred to me, should be shot!

I've sold a few this way with a script similar to Federers so know it does work.

I remember a competition on here a while back about getting a FTR name and trying to sell on within the timeframe. Mine went around 4 weeks later for mid £xxx (it can work)

I did try with other names i held. Personally I was sending out as many emails as I could find companies. Few came back but never closed on many (perhaps a lower price model as Federer is the right way).

Maybe now G is playing silly buggers with affiliate sites it's time to respark the salesman engine and see what can be sold.

I've just tried mailing a few end users for a domain name I bought on here as a job lot for around £30 a few months ago.

Will let you know how I get on....

Ditto - I have been sending out a few recently - being much more selective and have 1 sale out of 10 names I tried using very simple text and low price.

Stephen.

I've had some "interesting" replies from people, but on the whole, replies are courteous and simply say no thank you if it's not wanted.

It all depends on the keywords within the domain you are selling. If they are prized keywords locking up popular products or services that actually get local searches, then you will get positive replies and several "how much" inquiries.

Inspired by Federer's success, I went on a sales offensive after reading this thread.

205 total emails sent to end users for 30 domains, resulting in 3 completed sales (1/10) at prices I was very happy with. Received low-ball offers for 2 other domains and a fourth sale was agreed pending escrow but the buyer had second thoughts and disappeared.

Funnily enough all my sales came from the last 10 domains I sent emails for, even though I received some positive replies to other domains in the first batch of 20. Just shows how much of a numbers game this is.

I've had 4 sales in the last week.

A .org.uk for £75
a .co.uk for £250
a .co.uk for £150
a .co.uk for £100

Plus:

One hyphenated .co.uk at £250 that's supposedly pending;

One .co.uk at £450 where the buyer vanished;
One .org for £350 where the buyer changed his mind;

And a few replies that petered out.

It's very time consuming though.

Be careful you don't get reported to the ICO (ico.gov.uk). I did. Just for sending out a sales enquiry to a relevent company via their freely available (i.e. on their site) email address.
