Slow broadband can hurt the value of your home...

Think this all depends on what you do for a living. If your work requires you to spend lots of time online then its a definite consideration.

I certainly wouldn't consider a house with a poor connection. The problem is these tools can be quite inaccurate.
I put my postcode in the not spot one above and it said I'm in a slow area which is a load of rubbish as I'm typing this on my virginmedia 120mb connection. Cable broadband has been available on my road for many many years so they need to update there database for sure.

All the more reason to do as Edwin suggested originally and include your actual broadband speed with other marketing info when selling your house.

Nowadays, fast broadband isn't just for those who work from home. On demand TV needs decent broadband - and if you've got teenagers it's a must!

Same when you go on holiday. I need connection. Its the first thing i look for if I like the look of the hotel.

If it aint got, it gets binned and the search starts again.

Yep. Got burned on this in New Zealand a few years back. Stayed at a really nice (read: "expensive") hotel for 4 days as part of a longer trip, and it was the ONLY hotel in the whole area not to have internet in the rooms - even the cheap ones all did (How do I know? because all the others had "high speed internet" on the signs out front!) Now, 4 days may not sound like a long time, but actually there was a whole bunch of stuff I was keeping an eye on at the time and it did cause a few headaches!

So now if there's no mention of internet I automatically pass (unless it's in the UK and therefore I can use my mobile).

That's one of the things I'm sure smaller hotels especially may not even realise, because by definition you don't see the people who choose not to stay at your hotel...

Still a load of nonsense and I'm surprised at this forum over this.

Ok it may be the deciding factor between two similar houses, but it's never 10% in a million years.

There is satellite broadband available all over the UK for the same price as standard broadband, no phone line needed and free sat tv. So I doubt, well apparently apart from here it seems, that there are people who would pay £20k or more for a house with faster broadband that can't get hold of an alternative. It's hilarious.

Makes sense to me, lack of high speed connection is a dealbreaker.

Satellite broadband goes to a max of 20 Mbps, comes with tiny bandwidth caps, and could easily run to £1k per year.

Not to mention latency that kills VOIP (I saw a satellite provider that specifically states they don't support Skype) and would play havok with any kind of multiplayer gaming that depends on reaction speed.

To be fair the article says people would pay 20% less for a house without broadband not 20% more for one with.
