As some of you may or may not be aware I try and run a site Humber.TV and the front page seems to be getting slower and slower in loading. I have tried the following with no improvements at all to this WordPress install.

  • Disabled most if not ALL plugins
  • Removed all side bar adverts
  • Tried on many machines and browsers
  • Videos running on an external server

I have changed the theme to "twenty ten" and it loads more or less instantly and so guess it's coding in my custom theme somewhere.

It seems to hang and then all come at once, so any direction, help, plugins to see whats causing it very welcome.

I am changing hosting soon so wouldn't mind it sorting first.

Thanks

Yes have said it's my site not the server or settings.

Switching themes and it works fast points to some script or code thats eating performance.

I have used them in the past and isn't great if a site is updated a lot as you don't see new content.

I'll give it a go and see how that works.
Ta! ;)

The biggest wait is for the initial request. It looks like there is a large wait to get that first response back.
You could try off loading the js files over to the video server. This serves two purposes, it gives a second url for browsers to be downloading from (browsers only make x amounts of requests to a single url) and they would then be served from NginX which is super fast anyway.
You could add expires headers to files too.

  • Looks like the Cache plugin has helped but will have to see if their are any updating issues. ta nick279 ;)
  • Jimm ;) How the hell would I do that? :D
  • Admin thanks for the link/s I'll take a look at them and fine tune I think. Ta

cant see anything with Firefox latest..

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

Yeah the cache plugin has broken the site.

Andy,
Ill check the config on the video server to make sure it will serve them files (make sure its not just serving a specific file type) but it should be a case of simply changing the code in the template to point to the correct location.

Word of warning with the The "Super Cache" Plugin. It won't allow *in* site Google searches i.e. using the top left search feature.

Something about can''t use results with that compression.
