Just wondered if anyone's seen this being advertised on TV a lot at the moment. It's a bootsale app (and website).

On the face of it Shpock.com is an awful domain, but I'm actually starting to think it's so bad that it's actually quite good. It's distinctive and it's made me write this....

Just wondered what other people thought?

It's like the sound of something really cheap breaking (like a spring going, for example). Not quite the right image for a car boot site.

It's also interesting to see how many people list used stuff at higher prices than you can buy it brand new on Amazon... Perhaps that happens on eBay too? (don't use it often enough to know) That's not the site's fault of course - only the branding is...

Its owned by a German company, and indeed a few of the pages on the English side of things still need to be translated. A quick look at the site I found 'Produkte von' on the member pages, above their other products.

So probably a name that was launched first in Germany, means more there than here, and being lazy, the owners decided to stick with it. Like alot of these kind of things now, they're pushing the app rather than the site, so who cares what its called, as long as you know what the little logo symbol looks like.

After writing above, I checked the whois and thats Austrian, so still German language.

EDIT TO ADD: I is like well dissed by the use of their language on there like aint it bro. They has bear writing skills cuz, gonna be proper big one day!
Every ad I read was like some sort of moron association joining submission. I know my grammer and spelling are terrible at times, but some of these are so bad, its funny :)

Anyone seen any others similar to this that have emerged quite recently and are doing TV advertising etc - i.e. new brand names that are being promoted but don't really have instant memorability - made up words type thing.

I am writing some domain related copy on this subject and would be interested to know what people have seen.

Thanks for that - as it happens that is one I did remember but I think only because I read quite a long article about them. I am sure there are others I have seen on TV recently though - but the problem is I can't remember them :)

I absolutely hate the name Shpock ! it annoys me, I remember a competitor to the likes of Moonpig and Funky pigeon, it was called the dogsdoodahs.com, I don't know if it is still going but what a stupid domain for that business !
