I now notice we have to send an invoice to end user to complete the sale - news to me.. never had to do before?!!

well I don't unless the buyer require one, done a back date on one two years ago.

I think you only have to do it if the buyer requests it?

I can confirm that you only have to send one if requested.

just told sedo if I have to put down my beer, go down to my shed turn on the pc and send an invoice then the deal is off - as its not stiplated in the user sellers agreement.

funny now the deal seems to be going through now..

This invoice lark is a real pain and seems so unnecessary. Our company has purchased loads of domains thro' Sedo and are perfectly happy with the invoice that Sedo provides that shows the sale price and sellers details. We've never asked for a second invoice. I have purchased goods at auction and don't remember an invoice also being sent directly by the seller - it's done by the auction company - they are the intermediary and it's one of the benefits of buying and selling at auction. Perhaps Sedo can give us a reason why this additional invoice is necessary and has been introduced.

Hi Nigel

We only send payment requests for the sales price - there are no invoices apart from for our commission.

The user gets a payment request from Sedo and pays to our escrow account. We then start the transfer and when the transfer process is completed we pay the seller.

Only the seller sends an invoice for the sale of the domain to the buyer as the sales contract is between the buyer and seller. We are only involved in the transfer and invoicing commission.

Please let me know what you feel has changed in the process and I will investigate further for you.

Hi Joanna,

Thanks for the reply. As Julian stated at the start of this thread this request for an invoice is very new and we have been selling through sedo for many years without ever being asked for an invoice. You say that you don't issue invoices but only a 'payment request' - that sounds to me very much like an invoice i.e. an invoice is a 'payment request'. Perhaps you could put the words 'invoice' on your payment request and that would solve the problem and save sellers having to produce invoices after the buyer has paid for the domain and had the domain transferred to them.

Many thanks

Nigel

I don't really see what the issue is, if you were selling the domain privately the buyer may ask for an invoice and you'd send them one. If they need a detailed invoice from yourself instead of the basic payment note Sedo provides just send them one, or you could just cancel the sale entirely :)

A payment request is not the same as an invoice.

We need to issue a payment request to give the necessary information about the sales price and (if the buyer is paying it) commission +
the bank details the user should send the payment to for a secure escrow payment.

As the sales contract only exists between the seller (not Sedo) and the buyer (not Sedo) Sedo cannot issue an invoice for the sales price.

We only can issue invoices for our Commission.

If the buyer wants an invoice he needs to ask the seller (usually via the transfer-center) for it. Some people do not ask for an invoice so it might just be the case that you have not come across this before and it should not be a frequent occurrence.

regards

Joanna

Hi Grant

I hear what you're saying but it's just a little irritating that we have sold domains thro' Sedo for many years without needing to issue invoices. It's just extra work (having to download an invoice or fax it thro') when the Sedo 'payment request' is perfectly adequate for our own needs when we purchase thro' Sedo. I can't see why a buyer would want it or need it from an accounting point of view. I assume that the introduction by Sedo of a button 'invoice request' is the only reason these requests are now being made.

Also remember that we are being asked to produce invoices after the sale of the domain has already taken place and been transferred (Sedo withhold the buyer's identity until the sale is finalised). Also the sale is subject to Sedo's own terms and conditions, and they are acting as the auction house, so the issuing of an official invoice by them ought to be part of the service for which we pay 10% commission on every sale. We're clearly not the only ones (i.e. this thread was not started by us) that would like this extra work removed.

If you buy from car auctions like British Car Auctions or Manheim, a fine art auction Sothebys or Christies etc, or your local general auction selling household effects, the invoice is always issued by the auction house. Why Sedo would do it any other way does not make sense imo.
