If you're going to put a lot of effort into that side of thing, you're probably going to be better off trying to sell products with a higher ticket price.
For example (assuming a 5% commission)
A £40 product pays you £2 commission
A £75 product pays you £3.75 commission
A £100 product pays you £5 commission
A £150 product pays you £7.50 commission
A £250 product pays you £12.50 commission
A £500 product pays you £25 commission
Now, you also have to estimate how hard it might be to make a sale.
But for example if it's 5x harder to sell a £500 product (off of a decent sales site on a highly targeted generic domain name) then you're still going to be over twice as well off selling the expensive product over the £40 pound product. (If it takes 10 units of effort to produce £2 in commission off of a £40 product, then each unit of effort is generating £0.20. If it takes 50 units of effort to produce £25 in commission off of a £500 product, then each unit of effort is generating £0.50!)
A good example product might be the "corner sofa bed" (domain is being sold by Bensd, see his sig). Now I don't know how much effort it takes to sell a sofa over an ice cream maker, but you're talking about a product with a typical price tag of £500-2,000+... High end bicycles, high end audio, high end electricals (home theatre systems) etc. all carry hefty price tags as well, as do digital SLR cameras and so on.
