The first result you posted was already a result pointed out here ;) Not really an effort by you isn't it ;) Besides this wasn't the competitive phrase aimed for if read the OP's post correctly:

Take for example this site I optimised for someone who is a freelance chef under the search phrase: freelance chef:

phrase: freelance chef

Granted if Dorset was also desirable to target it's a bit sloppy not to optimize for it.
Go for the phrase freelance chef and see how that goes ;)

Not saying it would be that difficult but the bet would be more interesting then :)

Damion,
I wasnt taking any credit, the first result was posted before as you said, just pointing out the second result had mibut in it.
He was saying how he had optimised for the phrase "freelance chef Dorset" with his seo expertise, i was just trying to show how easy a phrase it actually was.
I have neither the time or inclination to turn this into a full blown seo competition, just wanted to point out that this person was attempting to gain clients from this forum and charge for something in which he professed to be an "expert" when in fact he quite clearly isn't.

The "without even trying" part threw me of then ;)
I agree, the OP is not that proficient judging by his posts and it would help him to learn more about the subject before charging people money.

P.S. I'm no expert by any means.

Not much effort Mibut, just a couple of sig links around the forums.

When i'm number 1 i tell you how much traffic this search phrase gets.

I'm guessing a number very close to -1 and 1.....;)

I'm actually targetting the search phrase 'Dorset' for two of my sites at the moment, now that is a competetive term.

Think you will be about right your guess on amount of traffic.
Good luck with "Dorset"
Google gives - Results 1 - 10 of about 19,600,000 for "Dorset" [definition]. (0.12 seconds) :)

Well i got to no.3 for Results 1 - 10 of about 31,000,000 for first time buyer. (0.05 seconds)

Although i think Dorset may be more competetive in real terms due to the large number of government (local and national) sites up there.

3 days gone now, so you got 11 days of the 2 weeks you sai to get number 1 on google:

freelance chef dorset

good luck!

This is the top 10 as i see it on my current data center.........

As you'll be able to see i'm actually top already...

So i've got a blog post at the top! With 3 other pages in the top 10.......

omg

what a joke this is!

this is not seo on an individual website, its just a page on some backwater site called: http://www.free.thehealthzone.co.uk/

you've just created some backlinks and a directory - well done wish I could do that.. lol

My client/s would not be really impressed to be dependent on another website for traffic.

My clients want their own stand-alone-site ranking not some link on a crappy 3rd party link farm site your signed up with.

listen mister: http://mywebsiteonline.co.uk/ hot-shot SEO guy -

you cant even build your own websites without ripping them off from other peolple!

SEE the site you rip them off from:

http://www.oswd.org/design/preview/id/2898

you even have the nerve to put Copyright mywebsiteonline on your homepage!

you need to think long and hard before you carry on flaming me SEO king...

No, what a joke you are.

It proves my point, i made a post on an open blog and it outranks that site which you've supposedly done SEO work for! That my friend is a joke!

Stick to photography, you seem pretty good at that. ;)

I've used an open-source design, i am copyrighting my content on that site not the design!

Also my design skills are not the point here, if i made a post offering to design sites then fine, i'd be happy for critism, but i dont recall doing that.......

Is your last bit a threat? Grow up, well done for posting one of my web addresses, that must have been really hard to track me down Mr Jminternet.co.uk.

Once i've proved my point, i'll remove most of the links relating to this phrase and will some small work on your part you'll reclaim your clients rankings.

Have i proved my point yet?

Or perhaps you'd like to settle this in a gentleman like fashion, after all its not very fair on your client. Perhaps we could have a mini SEO comp, pick a phrase, a timescale and we'll see who can rank higher?

Ok,

ok mister aboutdorset.co.uk lets do something with a bit more competition.

how about the phrase:

dorset cottage

ive checked and theres about 2500+ searches for this pm.

next friday we'll see who can get a [stand alone] site listed HIGHEST under MSN, yAHOO & GOOGLE

If you had properly researched then you would see that
http://www.google.co.uk/search?sour...ls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-09,GGLG:en&q=dorset+cottage

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,180,000 for dorset cottage. (0.06 seconds)

Results 1 - 10 of about 9,620 for "dorset cottage". (0.15 seconds)
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...,GGLG:en&q="dorset+cottage"&btnG=Search&meta=
Number of searches bears no relevence to actual position in serps.

also no coincidence that you choose this phrase as you already have the domain and site running in dorsetcottage org uk although once again looking at the title, tags and content looks like you could do with employing someone who knows something about seo ;) and also a spell checker :)

No it would have to be a phrase that neither of us have a current interest in, although that may be hard to prove / achieve.

Also 2 weeks? SEO is'nt a quick fix. In reality you need to allow 3 - 12 months before seeing any real results for competitive terms in Google.

MSN of course is another story, two weeks in achievable.

Yahoo falls in between the two.

So have i proven my point about Freelance Chef Dorset? Would you like me to remove my links? Mr bridportchessclub.co.uk

By the way my name is Ashley, feel free to call me it, it would be a little stupid to keep quoting different domain names that each other owns.

Most people that know me on here will know where they can find my names,
www.quickwhois.co.uk, www.mywebsiteonline.co.uk, www.mysiteonline.co.uk all have several of my names listed.

I'll tell you what iv4.. i have sat for a while watching this thread ( dunno why .. i suppose i was waiting to see exactly how you would react to critisism

I can see ashleys' point.. your skills do need a bit of work ( im not getting involved in the debate between you and ashley .. just stating my own observations )

If you fancy a challenge iv4.. here's one for you ...

I have a site which has been redesigned....

If you can get the site into the 1st page of google for any of the search terms i choose within 4 months.. I'll pay you well.
If not .. then you get zip...

Hows that .. lets see if you want to put your skills on show

if anyone wants any cheap and effective SEO done on their websites/ adsense templates etc plz pm me.

I can offer examples of sites on page 1 & 2 of google under popular generic search terms.

I will also give u advice on improving your keywords, meta tags, links and overall design and useability.

SEO is not a black art, don't pay through the nose when you don't need to.

thx :)

oh dear,

I look back on my post and I think - how did it come to this?

I dont pretend to be the fountain of all SEO knowledge, but I know there are people here who are not so technical and was offering some services.

I accept that maybe its not perfect in every way, but remember im offering a service to ppl who don't have any website at all also.

So ive been shot-to-bits and roasted on this thread now

i'll admit defeat and I will end this thread

the Brave Knights of AD have finally defeated the nasty beast of keywords

...thank you

It came to this quite simply because of this
I can offer examples of sites on page 1 & 2 of google under popular generic search terms.
I will also give u advice on improving your keywords, meta tags, links and overall design and useability.
and then this
phrase: freelance chef dorset
Google rank: page 1, rank 1
freelance chef dorset - Google Search
as your example which didnt follow anything contained in
I will also give u advice on improving your keywords, meta tags, links and overall design and useability
. :)

yes and your point is?

these are all valid things I can do.

I've numerous people contact me who are keen to use my skills, so I know what I can do, I don't have to prove anything to a bunch of cybersquatting cowboys.

I thought this thread would now be left in peace to die.....

Cybersquatting cowboys? I think you've come to the wrong forum.

I note there are new sites at 1, 2 & 3 for Freelance Chef Dorset, i wonder which cowboys own those????

Two different approaches, same result.

If you look back on what you wrote, you were advertising your services to these cybersquatting cowboys.
The site that you had "seo'd" was quite easily overtaken for the simple search term "freelance chef dorset" in the google search engine results as i said it would be when when offering you a bet which not only did you not have the guts to take but didn't even acknowledge.
these are all valid things I can do.
but you didn't.
The only cowboy here is yourself, and the sad thing is your gun is loaded with blanks. :)
