At that level you may as well buy ihateverythingintheworld.biz and try to get it on the first page for 'car insurance quotes'...not gonna happen unless you can compete with websites building hundreds of thousands of links a day and whatever ridiculous budget they have.

Exact match doesn't mean jack shit at that level unless you've got the resources behind it.

This is a competitive marketplace so the site would need to be good anyway. The keywords, though not a certain passage, can only help and the term is brandable.
As I read it keyword domains won't be penalised for having keywords in them.
There has been too much emphasis on SEO through keyword domains, the SEO bandwagon has been milked to the limit, people need to look at the medium to long term.

Well if they're going to spend 70k on a domain I assume they have money to promote it too... I just think you can't turn that domain into a true brand. Its not memorable, its boring, its 3 words long.

Good exact matches have a lot of life left in them I think. I just don't see that one as a good one.

Ones at the toilet end of the scale like PayAsYouGoCarInsurance.org.uk, if you own them I'd develop and rank them or offload them - the future isn't bright for resale value I don't think.

yes I agree.
I have always preached that a portfolio should be built on quality not quantity.

More to the point would be try to rank for that term WITHOUT a keyword domain from a standing start. Having the domain name does give it a big head start whatever is speculated about exact matches. As for building hundreds of thousands of links, well with the exact name, the amount of links you need will be far less than without it.

Agree that you wouldnt buy that name unless you had resource to seo it. I think it is a fair price and for someone that can monetise it it is a good price.

Looking at LinkedIn it would appear the same person owns CarInsuranceQuote.net

Checking that domain on Google.com (USA) shows it at #1 for the main singular phrase and currently at #18 for the plural, so the model must be working well for him.

Absolutely, and every day he stays there gives a nice pot of gold to buy that "brand" domain everyone is so keen on right now.

Its Great commenting from the side lines but i think if you coming from the perspective of its not a brand its not this its not that

then you will never attain such positions is`nt it part of the fun that we
British love the under dog cheering him on David and Goliath

Monetization and exact match are the keys to such a domain. It's not branding.

Yes but if Google pull the rug out from under exact matches there will be no monetization...

I bet if we revisit this thread in 12 months, that domain isn't top 5 for that term.

You are probably right but the reason behind that is another: they won't push the SEO/link building of that precious domain to the limit, they'll take it slow and eventually they'll get there.
