I am new to Sedo and have received an offer on a domain.

The domain name was set at "offers". I received an offer and wanted to decline the offer and cancel negotiations as the offer was way too low. When I try to cancel, it comes back with an error message stating "You must first enter your asking price before you can cancel the negotiations!"

Where do I enter the asking price?

(I changed the offers to a set price on the main page and then went back into the offers page and it still won't let me cancel. It is looking for an asking price???)

Thank you for your help

OK, I've sussed it. I have to put in a "counter offer" ???

Bit strange.

offers

to stop mini offer pests, put min price that is acceptable to you , just clicking ''any offers'' leaves you open to silly offers...z

Does this mean that one is obliged to accept and sell if an offer matching the minimum price figure is made by a potential buyer, or is one allowed to decline and negotiate up a little/ a lot further?

I would hope that Sedo soon give us the opportunity to decline silly offers without having to counter bid. We don't like setting a minimum bid level as we're sure it gives the impression that it's close to what you want and it would be extremely hard to bid up from say a £1000 minimum up to say £5000

Hi All,

I can understand how that process would be a bit annoying. Unfortunately, that's one thing that we still need to address on our technical side. I think the main stumbling block is that our entire bidding system hinges on bids and counterbids (I won't bore you with the technical details) and that making it possible to cancel negotiations without counterbidding would entail a wholesale change to the entire structure we have in place. These changes are in the pipeline, but I can't give you a real answer as to when they will be ready to go. In the meantime, zee's suggestion is the best way to go about this problem. I know it's not satisfying, but it's best I can offer for now.

is there any update on being able to cancel negotiations without having to put in a counter-offer?

Hi Jhump,

This thread has had a longer Sedo career than me! I have passed this on to the head of our auctions department, and will post any information from him as soon as I receive it.

Hi Guys,

OK, here is the statement I have received from our team in charge of the auctions:

"Sedo’s offer/counter-offer system is designed to facilitate communication. Currently we do not have updates planned that would enable sellers to cancel negotiations without replying with an asking price. It is important that we keep in mind that not all domainers are educated on the value of domains, but of course even these people contribute to industry. In some cases buyers are end-users and/or inexperienced and unfamiliar with the pricing model of domains. Sellers therefore may receive lower than expected initial offers when their price expectations are not communicated.

To indicate price expectations sellers have the option to set a fixed price, suggest a price (make offer option) along with a setting minimum price or choose to leave the price field empty. When a seller opts to follow the latter option, at minimum a buyer's offer should be countered once. Responding with a counter-offer along with a comment validating the price will allow the buyer to then make a decision on whether to continue negotiations and could lead to a successful transaction. The way we see it is both parties should lay out their price expectations before a communication thread is closed, otherwise there could be a missed sales opportunity."

I hope that answers your queries. This isn't really my area of expertise, but please contact me or reply if you have any queries about this and I will try to find answers for you from my colleagues in the auctions department.

Regards,

Shaun

Thanks for the reply but the attitude is totally wrong imho. The domains we list are ours, we should have the ability to simply cancel negotiations without giving a reason, a counter offer or anything. It shouldn't be used as the main form of reply, that's for sure, but the option should be there.

Hi All,

our entire bidding system hinges on bids and counterbids

Ash

Here is the solution for silly bidders!

Offer for sri.co.uk GBP60
Commission GBP6
Net GBP 54

Counter offer for sri.co.uk GBP250,000
Comment "This domain earns more than this via SEDO parking"

It is a little time-wasting I know but heck It relieves my stress :D
