Had the domain scrap-gold.co.uk caught for me today.

Seems to have been a lot of interest in gold names over the last few months, especially with the sale of gold.co.uk.

Will probably develop this one rather than sell however, finding it hard to put a value on it due to the hyphen (I don't have a lot of hyphen names).

Any thoughts appreciated.

... and estimated daily spend level?

Interestingly, the .org.uk is at No. 1 for this term.

I feel it would be a difficult sale because people in this sector seem to like making up catchy names :D

Definitely some value though ... late hundreds would be a good sale maybe?

It was mine, I sold it to someone on here.

Golds a funny one, the market is circular - people sell scrap gold, refiners refine it and sell it on to jewellers, who make jewellery with it and sell it back to the public.

At the mo with gold prices being so high everyone is selling and no one is buying.

It has to go the other way eventually, otherwise there is no market.

While everyone thinks it'll keep going up forever, as with house prices the bubble will burst at some point.

At that point no one will be selling their gold any more, and scrap gold companies will disappear faster than they arrived.

And if no one is selling scrap gold any more then the value of scrap gold websites is ????

That opinion is gleaned from one of our clients, one of the biggest scrap gold dealers in the country.

Sales of gold jewellery on the other hand will really take off again at that point.

...and when there's demand for jewellery, the refiners will need more gold to sell back on to the jewellers to make more of it (therefore pushing the price of scrap gold back up again). Good old supply and demand.

The general consensus is that golds in a bubble - but I guess with the economy being goosed it could keep going up for a long while yet.

Thanks for the replies so far, any thoughts on value of the domain itself?
