True. My point though is that the data are interesting in that they show that domains can sell for certain amounts, but absolutely pointless for saying anything about trends etc as only a selective data set is presented.

What you can't say, is that average (or median) sales prices are either up, down or steady. To do so from this data is misleading.

Agreed, there are so many more large and small sales that dont get reported.

As long as they are consistent in how they filter sales, you can still get a vague trend by comparing 2 time periods...

Yes - I agree you can see the trend upwards. I haven't seen any of our recent sales appear in the list and yet we've sold around 20 .co.uk domains thro' sedo in the last three months. I can only assume that the buyers requested privacy on all of them. So I think we're just seeing the tip of the iceberg from Sedo. But the reported sales, our own experiences, and of course the discussions on acorn help us gauge the market, and the big sales like rugs.co.uk show that more business ventures are investing in quality descriptive domain names. Create a good website, it pays you back quickly, and you've got a cracking domain for the future.
