Repeated calls for offers with no other guidance - what do you think?

If I really don't want to show my hand straight away, I open to offers for a day or two, get no interest and then go back with a BIN. If there's still no interest I'll go back with a lowered BIN as a last call. I think this is a fairly reasonable approach.

Nobody is saying you, I or we can't post a sales thread with "open to offers" what people are saying is that it is annoying when people keep posting "open to offers" or "still seeking offers" 7 times a week.

Why is it annoying ? it doesn't annoy me, anyone can do it all they like so long as they wait 12 hours.

I think the forum rules do cover this situation:

From forum sales rules: "3. Where possible please set an asking price or place a ballpark price guide."

And from revised forum general rules: "Do not "bump" your sale threads with the word "bump" or no relevant information. "

Yep I would agree with that, would seem a decent change to me with little or no adverse consequences to legitamate users of the site.

I asked admin to close my own domains wanted thread a couple of days ago because of the rule changes, and the fact that my "post pm send" request was still being replied to - I don't see the point of members twisting the situation for their own gain if it annoys others.

On my forum there is an option for the person who started the thread to be able to close it themselves without the need of pm'ing an admin or mod. Could cut down on the heavy workload our mods have. Plus people take ownership of their threads and can stop them getting out of hand at times.

Clearly not bumpers.

well if you do what other members do and report issues you dont like then the mods and admin will look into things. we can be on here 247 as we do have jobs aswell you know.

gotta with all about the uniformed 'bumping' of threads, I like to review the threads and think that another member has posted a reply, how annoying to see batches of 'new replies' only to read 'still open to offers' etc.

But my biggest gripe is with the 'editing' of posts, agreed that you should be able to edit a post if in error, spelling etc, but once another response has been posted the original/previous post should be locked from editing.

Why should we continually read threads about domains with prices that have been changed, if you put a BIN price in the 1st thread then thats the way it stays, 2nd thread by all means put a lower BIN but you shouldn't be able to amend the 1st post etc. You lose all historical comments/prices about a domain.

If you need a thread closed then approach a mod, just leave the thread alone.

So anyone posting sales thread without guide prices, or who is still bumping their own threads with comments like "still looking for offers on this name" (obviously not relevant information) when no-one else has posted anything in a thread (ie where no-one is interested in the domain(s) in question) is obviously not playing by the rules as they now stand.

Maybe we should all just stick by the rules and the spirit of the rules?

Rules;

3. Where possible please set an asking price or place a ballpark price guide.
6. Strictly no thread bumping within a 12 hour period

It's not possible to put an asking price or ballpark figure if you don't have a predetermined price or a ballpark figure.

and 6 speaks for itself.

What do you think? Is there perhaps some way to improve this kind of thing? Or am I just being a bit over-sensitive?

No you are not over-sensitive at all. I offered 3 3 letter .co.uks with wonderfull letter combinations for GBP750 here at fixed prices section. After I post it my thread stayed on top for "1 minute" because of other garbage. Even one of the lowlife here get angry and bumped one of the garbage here to surpas my thread.

There is no need to invent the wheel. Just look at the dnforum and you will see how they manage it.

Here is the solution:

Rules to this forum - Please read before posting!

"Blatant and deliberate attempts to bump your thread to the top of the list with comments like (but not limited to) "bump", "up", "still available", etc. will result in the thread either being closed or deleted without notice! You may be warned at first, but repeated offenses may be treated differently."

I think you're fighting a losing battle here - pretty much everyone seems to think that it's taking the p**s and somewhat annoying to keep bumping threads with no extra information that no-one else has replied to.

Wouldn't it be easier to just stop doing it, not just you, but anyone who does?

We all have to get along, and the "rules" are fairly clear when taken in their entirety.

I like to use the site to buy and less often sell, I don't want to spend all day on here sifting through posts I have read 5 times with no new info.

Maybe we should all use the "user" reputation feature more closely. I'm sure as someones rep bar turns red then people will get the message.

personally this has stopped me bidding on your names in the past. Also, you use the words "sensible offers" a lot, what is sensible to you may not be to me and vice versa so i have no idea what to bid.

I'm sorry you feel like that rob, that's certainly my loss because of the way I phrase my offers for sale.
But in the interest of clarity on the issue of bumping.

I have opened 55 sales threads on this forum with 65 personal bumps, so not in response to a post, thats an average bump of 1.18 per thread with the greatest being 4.
broken down thats 4 threads 4 bumps 7 threads 3 bumps 6 threads 2 bumps
16 threads 1 bump and the rest no bumps.

Another way of looking at the numbers is that in under a month (since Jan 13th) you have created or bumped a total of 35 different sales threads.

Not a single one of those threads currently has any other forum member as the last poster - ie the last poster on all 35 threads is you.

Ban bumps. D.S. never tolerated them, no exceptions.

On your first point are you saying there should be a limit to sales threads opened ?

On your second point I don't see the relevance I still have 1.18 bumps per sales thread on my account. What other people post on my threads is a matter for them.

Wasn't the offers section split out from the fixed price to stop people moaning about this?

whilst we're moaning i'd like to say i'm not interested in .org domains but still have to waste time looking at those.

This thread is going to go nowhere and inevitably get locked imho.
