Hi Guys,

Have just regged Redouble/co/uk

Redouble - To make or become much greater. To become twice as great.

I was thinking this could be quite an aspirational generic.

Any thoughts on potential value ?

Cheers,

Steve.

A chancy bet at Bridge. Difficult to sell, because it is very difficult to set up a bridge site that makes money directly. There is one bridge site that makes money directly, bridge4 money.com. Apart from that, it is an occasionally used term in backgammon.
Might be useful for a site where people can "flip" things quickly with a bit of work - houses, catalogue returns, etc. -but you need the sources to feed that, and I'm keeping mine!

Interesting thoughts. Thanks so much for your input on this.

Yes, I like the idea of 'redouble' referring to a redoubling of profits.Good for a flip site as you say.

Any other thoughts ? Firestars - do you rate this one at all ?

Cheers,

Steve.

Thanks Firestars.

That's some early saturday morning appraising going on right there !

Perhaps this domain name is a little obscure.

I was wondering, do you think it's still worth trying to find generic co.uk's (especially shortish ones) or has virtually everying with substantial worth been registered ? I realise it's a difficult question but do you concentrate more on drop-catching ?

Geo domains aside, has anyone newly registered really valuable .co.uk generics in recent times ? ?

Just curious.

Cheers,

Steve.

Just a sad tale - a member registered a good .co.uk domain because he thought it had potential, a few months later a large corporation bought the .com, registered the name as a trademark, and used it for a service, now they are hitting him hard, trying to get him to hand over the domain.

Well, it shows you can still find the odd good name - but it can get hard to keep it long enough to make money from it.

Very interesting..

Do you think the name contrevened a patented product ? I wonder why they didn't also register the .com when they picked up the the .co.uk. Is the corporation prepared to pay for the name ?

I've actually got my eye on a couple of very brandable .org.uk's. Not to highjack my own thread but are brandable .org.uk generics worth buying even if the particular word doesn't get alot of exact matches ? ? I have one in mind which is an excellent descriptive term - brandable.

Can brands be built on org.uk's ??

Cheers,

Steve.

I don't know the full story - and it would be indiscreet to say more.

But knowing that it takes time to trademark a name, I would think it likely that the TM owner "reserved" the com when applying for the TM, and our lad came along in the meantime and thought he would try to build on the co.uk because only the com was registered, and it wasn't being used, along with anything else.

Interestingly, the net, org, info and org.uk have all been taken by other people since the TM has been registered - I'll bet they got stroppy letters, too.

I keep finding situations like you mention, where a name is registered in a lot of extensions, but there is no-one doing anything with those domains, and the org.uk is available.
I'm sure it is possible, when there is apathy in the other domain owners, to build on the org.uk. I have seen it done, building on the .net and a hyphenated co.uk to get traffic through sites, when the "big" extensions are taken and parked.

When your domain is the only one providing info, the fact that it is org.uk is immaterial, as long as it gets indexed and people find the info.

Thanks for that. Interesting stuff. Sounds like big money talks as usual.

I keep wanting to call you crabfoot by the way, but I don't feel it's very complimentary (apologies if you do actually possess such a thing !). Is it a lucky charm ?? Sorry if I'm being nosey.

Makes sense what you say re. extensions. There are so many where all the extensions are gone, yet nothing is developed. So where the org.uk's are available it's a definite development opportunity by the sounds of it.

Thanks again,

Steve.
